“Você quer maçãs? Você quer cenouras? Você quer abacaxis? Nós temos tochas.
— The Merchant
The produce light when placed, held, or dropped (via the Jogar Fora key), and are crucial at all stages of gameplay as primary light sources. Torches provide light permanently, and are never consumed. Regular torches can be found randomly in chests and Pots, as a bonus drop from slimes, or purchased from the Merchant or Comerciante Esqueleto for 50 each.
Torches can be placed on the sides or tops of most blocks, on background walls, and on the sides of trees and Wooden Beams. In the Versão para Computador they can be placed on any type of platform. A placed torch can be retrieved by pressing the ⚷ Abrir / Ativar key on it or by freeing it with a pickaxe or drill. When the block a torch is attached to is broken, the torch will attach itself to any other block or wall directly adjacent to it. If all adjacent blocks surrounding a torch are removed (left, right, and bottom), and no wall exists behind it, it drops like any other item.
As tochas são também mecanismos que podem ser atividas e desativadas com os fios.
Placing at least 100 torches in close proximity, at a depth of at least 200 below surface level in any biome, will start the Torch God mini-event. This will grant the Torch God's Favor, which will allow the player to automatically convert ordinary torches to one of the biome types. This can produce Desert, Jungle, Ice, Hallowed, Crimson, or Corrupt Torches in the respective biomes; it can also produce Bone Torches in the Dungeon, and Demon Torches in the Underworld.
Tipos[]
Standard Torch[]
Standard Torches produce an orange flame, and cannot be placed in liquids. They are crafted with Wood and Gel, but can also be purchased from the Merchant (always) or the Comerciante Esqueleto (during the second half of every in-game minute) for 50 each. Besides being used to craft various other light sources, they are also used to craft Flaming Arrow, Coquetel Molotov, and the Flaming Mace.
Colored Torch[]
Purple, Yellow, Blue, Green, Red, White and Orange Torches can be made by combining standard Torches with gems. There are nine available colors, one for each of the seven gem colors, plus the Tocha Cor-de-rosa crafted with Gel Cor-de-rosa and the Tocha Arco-íris crafted with Rainbow Brick. With the exception of their colors and light levels, these function identically to a standard Torch. The Rainbow Torch cycles through various colors. The Pink Torch is used to craft the Vela da Paz, and the Rainbow Torch is used to craft the Fogueira de Arco-íris.
Tocha de Gelo[]
Ice Torches are crafted by combining standard torches with Ice Blocks or in Computador, Console, Celular e Switch Pink Ice Blocks, Purple Ice Blocks or Red Ice Blocks and give off a pale blue light. The Ice Torch has a slightly different graphic to the rest of the colored torches. Besides being used to craft the Fogueira Congelada and various Frozen and Boreal light sources, they are also used to craft Frostburn Arrows.
Tocha de Osso[]
Bone Torches are sold by the Comerciante Esqueleto for 1 each during the first half of every in-game minute (a real-world second), other times he sells ordinary Torches. They are used to craft Fogueira de Ossos. Bone Torches regularly produce long-lasting sparks which can map out a fair distance below them.
Another way of acquiring Bone Torches is placing and immediately breaking Torches in the Calabouço with the Bênção do Deus da Tocha. These can be used anywhere outside the Snow biome, Desert, Jungle, Corruption, Crimson, Hallow, Dungeon or Jungle Temple biomes for extra luck, and especially in the Underworld for increased fishing chances.
Tocha Super-Brilhante[]
Ultrabright Torches cannot be crafted, but are sometimes sold by the Caixeiro-viajante for 3 each. They shine brighter than normal torches when held. They are used to craft Ultra Bright Campfire and Bloco de Fogo Super Brilhante Vivo.
Tocha Demoníaca[]
Demon Torches can be taken from the Ruined Houses in the Underworld, where they occur naturally. On Computador, Console, Celular, Switch e tModLoader, they can also be crafted by combining standard torches with Obsidian. They function identically to standard, colored and Ice Torches, except that they cycle smoothly between red, purple, and blue flame colors. They are used to craft Fogueira do Demônio and Bloco de Fogo Vivo do Demônio.
Tocha Amaldiçoada e Tocha de Ichor[]
These torches become available in Hardmode, and emit a bright green or yellow light, respectively. They are nearly unique in that they can be held or placed in liquids and still function normally there. They are crafted by combining standard Torches with Cursed Flames (Cursed Torches) or Ichor (Ichor Torches). They are used to craft Fogueira Amaldiçoada and Fogueira de Ichor, respectively.
Tocha do Deserto[]
Desert Torches are crafted by combining standard torches with Hardened Sand Blocks, Hardened Crimsand Blocks, Hardened Ebonsand Blocks or Hardened Pearlsand Blocks. They are used to craft Fogueira do Deserto.
Tocha Coral[]
Coral Torches are crafted by combining standard torches with Coral. The Coral Torch has a slightly different graphic to the rest of the colored torches. They can be placed in Water and still function normally there. They are used to craft Fogueira Coral.
Tocha Corrompida[]
Corrupt Torches are crafted by combining standard torches with Ebonstone Blocks, Hardened Ebonsand Blocks or Purple Ice Blocks. They are used to craft Fogueira Corrompida.
Tocha Carmim[]
Crimson Torches are crafted by combining standard torches with Crimstone Blocks, Hardened Crimsand Blocks or Red Ice Blocks. They are used to craft Fogueira Carmim.
Tocha Consagrada[]
These torches become available in Hardmode. Hallowed Torches are crafted by combining standard torches with Pearlstone Blocks, Hardened Pearlsand Blocks or Pink Ice Blocks. They are used to craft Fogueira Consagrada.
Tocha da Selva[]
Jungle Torches are crafted by combining standard torches with Jungle Spores. They are used to craft Fogueira da Selva.

Notas[]
- With the exception of the Coral Torch, Cursed Torch, and Ichor Torch, torches do not function under water. A torch thrown into water will not emit light once it submerges, and if a player enters water with a torch selected in the hotbar, the torch will not be visible and will emit no light. Placed torches are freed when water touches them, and drop as items.
- Holding the Selecionar Automaticamente key with the cursor over empty space will automatically prepare the torches in the player's inventory, allowing for quick placement or easy access to light.
- White Torches appear to produce the most light of any light source in the game.
- Torches provide more light when placed than they do when held or dropped, with the exception of the Ultrabright.
- Torches are the only item where it is possible to throw (via the Jogar Fora key) just one of the item. For all other items, the entire stack gets thrown.
- Throwing a torch will cause it to only go a few tiles forwards before falling straight down. For a light source that can be tossed farther, Glowsticks or Flares should be used (though note that Glowsticks are thrown by selecting them and then pressing the ⚒ Usar / Atacar button, not by pressing Jogar Fora).
- Despite appearing dim, Blue Torches can reach a respectable distance with the "Trippy" lighting mode selected, which is extended even farther under the effects of a Night Owl Potion.
- While in Smart Cursor mode, the player can only place torches in dark places.
- Rainbow torches are the hardest to obtain.
Curiosidades[]
- Orange Torches were apparently added because of a "really persistent nagging brit" in reference to the YouTuber ChippyGaming AKA James Bennett.[4]
- Torch flame animations continue to play while the game is paused.
- If a block is placed above a torch, the torch will lower. If there is no block above it, the torch gets higher. This can be seen best using a Trap Door and opening/closing it.
- The Torch is the most used ingredient, with 229 recipes needing it, followed by Wood that is needed in 154 recipes.
