This article is about a consumable in-game item. For a guide for armor/weapon setups, see Guide:Class setups. For a general guide on how to progress, see Guide:Walkthrough. For the NPC-strengthening item obtained from shimmer transmutation, see Advanced Combat Techniques: Volume Two.

Advanced Combat Techniques is a consumable item obtained by fishing during a Blood Moon. It can only be used once per world, and others cannot be fished up once one has already been used. However, multiple copies can be obtained until the first is used.

On use, it permanently increases the defense of Town NPCs by 6 and attack damage by 20%, similar to the increases after each type of boss is defeated.

When used, the status message "The book's knowledge empowers your villagers!" is displayed.

Notes[]

  • This item has a catch quality of Extremely Rare.
  • Different from quest fish, the player can obtain another Advanced Combat Techniques as long as one has not been used, regardless of whether there is already an Advanced Combat Techniques in their inventory.
  • The effects on NPC damage and defense stack with Advanced Combat Techniques: Volume Two. Can be consumed before or after Volume Two has been consumed.

Tips[]

  • It is recommended to fish for this item in pre-hardmode due to the lack of extremely dangerous enemies such as the Dreadnautilus; however, the Zombie Merman can spawn, and it is a strong enemy at this stage.
