(Added text explaining how to get rid of the purple lighting effect that discolors ores. And corrected miscolour by changing it to: discolor (to change color; become faded or stained.))

The Shadow Orb creates a slowly moving sphere which follows the player around and emits dim light. The orb can move through anything and casts light when submerged in water, but moves very slowly causing it to fall behind when the player is moving quickly. If it falls far enough behind, it will teleport to the player's location. It can be acquired from destroyed Shadow Orbs (20% or 1/5 chance).

The Ice Golem is an uncommon hardmode enemy that is found in the Snow biome during a Blizzard. It possesses a damaging melee attack as well as a ranged laser which freezes players. They are immune to the Poisoned, Venom, Confused, and Frostburn debuffs. They can be found during both day and night. A good way to know one has spawned is a blue laser beam somewhere in the air.

It is possible to farm Ice Feathers if prepared properly in early hardmode, allowing the player to acquire upper-level wings easily. Ice golems, like all enemies, are more common at night due to higher enemy spawn rates. Ice Golems can also, although rarely, drop the Frost Staff which is a strong weapon in early hardmode.

The Shadow Orb can be moved up or down (on both PC and Xbox 360 console version) when the player does the following:
  +
PC - Up/Down Arrows control the orb's vertical movement.
  +
Xbox 360 - The left thumb-stick controls the orb's vertical movement.

  +
NOTE: You CANNOT control the orb's horizontal movement, aside from moving your character horizontally in either direction until you get the orb as close as possible to where you want it to be (not that it matters much, it will always stop very close or directly on top of your character).
It is possible to get more than one item dropped from the golem, although quite unlikely.

* The Shadow Orb buff will stay active until the player dies, even if the item was removed from the player's inventory. Same applies for Pets, Minions, the Fairy Bell and the Wisp in a Bottle.
* When you damage the Ice Golem with a weapon, it makes the same sound as a Pixie.

  +
* Unfortunately due to the purple light from the orb, it can discolor ores (i.e making gold look like copper). You can change this effect, however, by changing the lighting type to "white" in settings.
* If the Ice Golem can't see the player with its head, it will try to flee from the screen. If a player wants to farm it, he/she will need to attack it continuously to prevent it from escaping.

  +
* Before the 1.2 update it looked like this:
* The Ice Golem is the only enemy that drops the Frost Core, which is used to make Frost armor.

Frost Armor Farming
Method 1
* Since the laser originates from its head, and they are very tall, a safe way of defeating them is to dig a short 3-block-high tunnel level with its feet and continuously attack it. The other effective method is attacking it through walls using a weapon such as the Chlorophyte Saber, Nettle Burst or Mushroom Spear.

Method 2
* Take your Nimbus Rod, make a wall about 3 blocks thick and about 8-9 blocks tall, and when the Ice Golem comes throw down the clouds from the Nimbus Rod just on the other side of the wall and then hide behind the wall. The clouds will make the Ice Golem not flee despite not seeing the player, and the Ice Golem will die after a short time.

Method 3
* Build a small box 10-15 blocks above ground (you need to fit in there), then make a 1 block wide hole in the bottom of the box and shoot the Ice Golem from that hole with a fast ranged weapon (e.g. Repeater or Clockwork Assault Rifle) and when it dies and drops the loot, break another block to fit in, collect the loot, go back into your box and put the newly destroyed block back to continue farming.

Trivia
* The projectile it shoots is named "Ice Beem." Note the spelling on "Beem."

* There was a glitch where if you were frozen by one of its ice beams your vanity items would not show while you were frozen, but it would show the armor you had equipped and any dye that was equipped at the time. But vanity items would show again after frozen Debuff wore off.
