Console version
Console-Only Content: This information applies only to the Console version of Terraria.
For the console version history, see Console version history.

The Console version of Terraria is published by 505 Games and developed by DR Studios. It is a port of the PC version PC version, which is developed by Re-Logic.

The console version is currently available natively on 6 different console systems (3 of which run on Old-gen consoles.) The game was released on the Nintendo Switch on June 27, 2019.[1] It is also playable on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility.

The Nintendo 3DSNintendo 3DS version version is considered separate on this wiki, and has its own page and its own history. It will not receive any significant updates past its current PC version PC 1.2.1 equivalent.[2]

Due to hardware requirement issues and memory constraints, the Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, and Wii U, are considered Old-gen platforms and thus will no longer receive significant updates past the 1.2.4.1 PC version PC equivalent (see Old-gen console version Old-gen console version).[3][4][5]

Switch-exclusive features

The Nintendo Switch Nintendo Switch version has some features not found in the other console versions of the game. These include:

  • Touchscreen support including various gestures:
    • Pinching to zoom on both the map as well as the in-game world
    • Quick inventory management
    • Tapping the screen to use items
    • Quick access to the inventory and mini-map
    • Quickly toggling visibility on accessories
  • Handheld play
  • The Nintendo Switch can also be Docked into TV mode, which plays about the same as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version.
    • It also has a local multiplayer mode in Docked mode.

Japanese release

Trivia

  • Prior to 1.3, the console version was developed by Engine Software. Development was then handled by Pipeworks Studios until the release of 1.4, in which DR Studios took over development.
  • Due to unknown reasons, the Xbox One Xbox One platform unintentionally received the Console 1.0.1372.5 update about 48 hours prior to the official release on the PlayStation 4 platform.[6]
