* Another method is to use a teleporter wired to a 1-second timer along with a hall of spike ball traps. When executed properly, the Dungeon Guardian(s) will chase you as you teleport back and forth, taking damage from the spike balls. This method is effortless and saves bullets and gravitation potions.

***** To easily defeat the guardian first set up a spawn point/house at the entrance. Second, enter the dungeon and proceed down until the guardian spawns. you will die. After you re spawn find the location directly above the guardians spawn point and tunnel down until the guardian spawns again. You need to find the exact block level that he spawns at because As long as you are one block above the spawn point you will not die. once you have determined this point, rig up a series of teleporters and levers in a one way travel pattern to the surface, placing teleporters at an interval of approx one screen width apart.

This is due to the fact that instantly jumping to the surface will cause the guardian to de-spawn. At each interval wait until the guardian is almost on you before acvtivating the level to teleport to the next interval. For me it was 3 intervals to the surface, i used red wire for this part.

An easy way to size up your room is to place a single block then proceed placing blocks until the first block you placed touches the edge of your screen. Then return to the first block you placed and proceed placing blocks in the opposite direction until the first block again touches the edge of your screen.

If your room is too short the guardian will kill you before you teleport.

this segment was added 10/20/2013. As a side note i would like to say that the guardian did 8-9k damage to me during the set up of this procedure. I am unsure if this would mean the turtle armor/black belt combo will still work. This method took me aprox 45 mins to kill the guardian. i used inferno fork for extra dps and the chlorophyte crystal as it can shoot through walls.

Dungeon Guardians are enemies that guard the Dungeon against intruders. If a player enters the Dungeon without first killing Skeletron and travels below zero depth (the horizontal midline of the map), multiple Dungeon Guardians quickly fly at the player, dealing 1,000 damage each, effectively killing any player instantly. Dungeon Guardians are large, very fast, and travel through blocks.

Dungeon Guardians are immune to the Poisoned, On Fire!, and Cursed Inferno debuffs.

Why is the Dungeon Guardian considered a high threat in Terraria? toggle section
The Dungeon Guardian in Terraria is considered a high threat due to its formidable attributes. It guards the Dungeon against intruders and quickly flies at any player who enters the Dungeon in a world where Skeletron has not been defeated. The Dungeon Guardian deals a whopping 1000/2000/3000 damage each, which can instantly kill most players if they are unprepared. It's also very fast, traveling at around 41 mph in all directions, and can travel through all blocks. Furthermore, any player who attacks a Dungeon Guardian will deal only 1 damage, or 2 for critical hits, making it a tough enemy to defeat. This is why it's often referred to as one of the '3000 hit guardians'.

What strategies can be used to defeat the Dungeon Guardian in Terraria? toggle section
Defeating the Dungeon Guardian in Terraria requires some strategic planning. One effective method is to lure the Dungeon Guardian into a circular hoik and throw a boomerang, which prevents it from reaching the player while constantly taking damage. Another strategy involves purchasing teleporters from the Steampunker NPC and laying them out apart from each other. The Portal Gun can also be used to keep the player constantly teleporting, making it nearly impossible for the Dungeon Guardian to hit them. Additionally, the Dungeon Guardian is vulnerable to the Frostburn, Stunned, and Bleeding debuffs, which can be used to the player's advantage.

Notes

  • Deep caves and Chasms near the Dungeon should be avoided until Skeletron is defeated, as having a significant portion of the Dungeon on-screen below zero depth is considered being inside it, and Guardians can therefore still spawn.
  • Killing a Dungeon Guardian is possible, though it would take thousands of hits due to its absurdly high defense. Combined with the fact that you generally need to contend with multiple Guardians at once, victory is extremely unlikely unless you prepare carefully for the encounter.
  • Entering the Dungeon while fighting Skeletron will still spawn the Dungeon Guardian.
  • If you are going for the Bone Key that the Dungeon Guardian drops, the best setup is Gravitation Potions, an Unreal Megashark and Crystal Bullets. A Black Belt or Master Ninja Gear can be used for a chance to dodge attacks, and a set of Turtle armor with this setup will also deal some extra damage to the guardian.
  • Another method is to use a teleporter wired to a 1-second timer along with a hall of spike ball traps. When executed properly, the Dungeon Guardian(s) will chase you as you teleport back and forth, taking damage from the spike balls. This method is effortless and saves bullets and gravitation potions.
  • A full set of Frost Armor is also very good, considering he is not immune to the Frostburn debuff.

Trivia

  • Originally, actual Skeletron Heads were used to guard the Dungeon. Killing all Skeletron Heads would count as defeating Skeletron, so the Dungeon Guardian was created to repair this unintentional behavior.[1]

History

  • 1.2: Now drops Bone Key.
