Apology. i don't now. But can i help you ? (something)

No worries, we appreciate your enthusiasm, and there is plenty you can do... add some screenshots to the environments pages, or detail to the items pages. We just were fortunate to have developers that were willing to provide us with clean images of all of the items (which is actually unusual). -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 11:40, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
So you don't want any pics of items? What about enemies?
We have a few, I just haven't gotten to them yet but if you want to add the monster/NPC images you have, that would be fine :D Oh, and please sign your talk page posts with 4 tildes ~~~~, Thanks! -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 11:47, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm new to this XD Never done much wiki editting before, but never been part of something which had a fresh wiki made before. I do hope I can help ^_^ I'll try my best. --SabotageTheFool 12:03, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
You are doing just great! We are happy to have you here! -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 12:05, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Also just to avoid any confusion the first post wasn't actually from me, I just picked up on pictures being removed and then saw this so came to check ^_^ --SabotageTheFool 12:15, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion

I think in the Gems section you should also include an image of what it looks like when you encounter it in the world (before mining) to give people an idea of what they're looking for as it's not always that clear :) --SabotageTheFool 14:40, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Go for it. I have added all the images and information the developers provided for us. The rest is up to you guys! -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 14:42, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough, when I get back from the office I'll attempt to grab some screen shots :) --SabotageTheFool 14:44, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Reporting

In all my years of wiki editting I've never really found out how, but who/wear do I go to to report someone for vandalizing the wiki? -Shadowclaimer 17:34, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

I haven't gotten the noticeboard set up yet, probably by tomorrow, but you can post it here for now. Once the noticeboard is established there will be a link in the navigation box. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 17:36, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Alright I'd keep an eye on http://wiki.terrariaonline.com/Special:Contributions/205.211.96.12, I've had to clean up his spam all over the place (he keeps posting "Noteable users include King Hardcore" and other stuff like that all over the place. He's had a couple legit edits lately so I'd just keep an eye out. Thank you ^^ -Shadowclaimer 17:39, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

How to Remove Categories from a page

How exactly do you remove categories from a page? I'm mostly taking about this page. --Mkolpnji 23:44, 18 May 2011 (UTC) Nevermind, I realized what was causing it. --Mkolpnji 23:52, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Image License

Hiya, dunno the best place to bring this up, sorry! I was just licensing some monster images I uploaded, and the Terraria license is lited under.. um.. Mojang Licenses? I'm.. guessing that isn't on purpose? --FungusTrooper 13:55, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Man.. I thought I had fixed that... -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 13:56, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Can you point it out to me? I don't see Mojang anywhere in the template. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 13:58, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Tables

Can you check them out? User_talk:happypal#table 2 Happypal 14:24, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I just wanted to know if you saw iteration 3? If there is anything un-satisfactory, I can tweak it all you need. Happypal 19:16, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Favicon

I tried uploading one at File:Favicon.ico. It didn't work though. Reading documentation, it would appear it is because the current file name is Favicon.ico, when it should have been favicon.ico. Now that I screwed up and the image is here, the slot is taken. Could you delete the image and upload it in the right place? Another solution would be to change the "$wgFavicon" variable to take the uppercase ico, but I don't know if you have these privileges. Happypal 14:36, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

It's fine... it will propagate.. it just takes forever. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 14:45, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Hum, you're right. It was taken into account in my ie. Sorry for bothering you. Happypal 14:56, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Altering a Template

Hey man,

I just updated the Recipe template and wanted to draw it to your attention to make sure I was not overstepping my bounds. In my attempts to spread the usage of the template to as many item pages as possible I have started coming across conglomerate pages (Molten Armor) showing multiple recipes that were not clear when done that way. I am new to the whole Wiki thing so I do not want to step on any toes so to speak :) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Crysyn (talk).

On a side related note, why do these say I have not signed them? (Oh, cause you have to click the signature button I guess. Hehe) --Crysyn 18:47, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Navbox

I created a few navboxes; two to be exact. I tried them at Slime and Ore, as well as their sub-pages. I wanted your approval before rolling out more of them (or reverting). I made sure to keep them nice and minimal (ie. I didn't make a navbox called "Items", with everything). The actual navboxes could use some template/css tweaking, but that can wait. Happypal 07:10, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Can you use the blue border like the boxes on the mainpage rather than the grey? Other than that, they are fine. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 07:27, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I noticed you added a bar. It looks good, but kind of breaks on pages with more than 1 navbox, like Gold Ore or Eater of Worlds. I'd suggest we add the line as a standalone template like {{navsectiontop}}. Happypal 17:01, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Would prefer not. The double bars is fine. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 17:02, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I thought it looked better before, but whatever. I'll go do other (more important) stuff for now. Happypal 06:39, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Deleting articles?

Heyo, just wondering how to tag things for deletion on this wiki? I updated the Devourer page to no longer need three seperate templates, but I can't tag the templates for deletion? They are: Devourer Body, Devourer Head and Devourer Tail. --FungusTrooper 11:27, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Use the template {{delete}}. It will add a box to inform users of the page's impending demise, as well as add it to the Category:Candidates for deletion. Happypal 11:33, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
That's what I wanted. I tried {{deleteme}} to no avail, lols. Thanks! --FungusTrooper 11:41, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
BTW, you can add a second parameter to the template to add a reason, for example {{delete|Unused template}}. If you are the original author of the page, or if you are marking a page for obvious deletion (vandalism, test page, etc...) you can also use the {{speedydelete}} template. It should speed up the deletion process. You can also add a comment to further help the admins analise the situation, like this: {{speedydelete|Blatant vandalism}}, {{speedydelete|Author request: Error}} Happypal 11:58, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Those pages are much more appropriate as redirects than deleted. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 16:03, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Comparison Chart

I have started a Comparison Charts page and have completed it with the all the armor types I am aware of (with a little help from an IP address:)). Before I put in the effort to do this for the tools and weapons as well I wanted to see if this was something that was of use on this wiki. --Crysyn 16:18, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I think it's fine, I just don't like the colors. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 16:20, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, I am colorblind and I just copied the ones from the item templates, hehe.. I then made the middle colors one grade darker for 'subheadings'. If you could give me a color code that fits with the color scheme I will put it in place--Crysyn 16:39, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I prefer a darker heading compared to body content, so try #AFCFE2 for the header row, and use the current header color #E4F0F7 for the body colors... see what you think of that. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 16:42, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Looks good to me (for whatever that is worth :)). The page has been updated with that scheme.. Ill work on the rest of the charts now then try to figure out how to link it into the wiki some where. Thanks --Crysyn 17:12, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I like that much better... Thank you. You might want to put each chart on it's own page and then transclude them together. That way the separate charts could be added to more specific pages, like Weapons, or Defense items etc. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 17:14, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Will do, Right now I am attempting to template the entries so they will be easier to maintain/update going forward as well.--Crysyn 17:33, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

NPC icon on the front page

So, I noticed you reverted the "NPC" icon on the front page back to the blurry, low quality, and outdated icon. Is there a specific reason you keep reverting all my attempts to improve the wiki? I mean, this is a community wiki, right? Do I need to ask permission for every single change I want to make? Spacebear 22:41, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Changes to the main page need to be discussed and approved. I also do not like your version of the image. It's too pixelated at that size. As for your changes to the item infobox they were ill advised at best. I appreciate your enthusiasm but discussion is the way to go on a template that is used on every single item/weapon page on this wiki.... -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 22:45, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I had fully intended on going through every single item page and updating the referenced parameters individually. It would be completely idiotic to change the parameters of a widely used infobox and not go through and update every page related to it.
Apart from that though, I understand that some things need to be discussed and I will attempt to be more careful around important articles. On the subject of the icon, couldn't you have just asked me to upload a smaller version of the icon instead of just flat-out reverting it? Spacebear 22:54, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

The current NPC image is just terrible. Any chance you would use this one instead: http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/9132/terrarianpc.png --Demian 16:23, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

I don't know how you can say the current one is terrible, it was provided directly from the developers. There is no better quality available. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 17:49, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
What. Are you serious? Okay. We are both talking about this file: http://wiki.terrariaonline.com/File:NPC.png Right? Because you can not honestly say with a straight face that in this image: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/2863/terrarianpcgamevswiki.png The right one (Currently in the wiki) is of better quality thank the left one. (Ripped straight from the game, suggested by me above) --Demian 18:30, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
The image currently appearing on the mainpage is directly from the developers. The only differences I see between the two of them is the position of the NPC and the size of the image. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 18:43, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Then either there is something wrong with my display or you are simply not understanding my point here. The current image looks looks absolutely horrendous because it is anti-aliased and has a very blurred look because of that. This type of anti-aliasing also causes transparency inside the sprite which is not good. Anti-aliasing sprites like these simply does not work with pixel art. --Demian 18:56, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Seriously can't you just change it. It pains me every time I see the image. --Demian 15:48, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Image Quality

Looking at all the pictures in the gallery, most seem of very low quality.. which is strange since the wiki was given clear images of all the items? I'd suggest to add a note somewhere to only upload in .bmp format as there's no quality reduction and it's very noticeable when quality is reduced for sprites.

bmp format is not allowed on the wiki. Keep in mind the gallery increases the size of the sprites making them look fuzzy. Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 23:19, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Well I just looked at two different sprites I have of a Goblin Sorcerer.

BMP Format = 3.33 KB PNG Format = 662 Bytes

I didn't see any difference in quality of these two so I guess it doesnt really make a difference using BMP over PNG. Yet I still don't understand why you reverted Spaceboy's NPC image to the original. Was it only because the guide was not in the walk animation or did you not like how it was pixelated either? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Bobb1118 (talk).

I didn't like the way it was pixelated. These sprites do not blow up well. It also didn't fit the size very well, much narrower. I'm not against a better NPC image on the mainpage, it just needs to be BETTER. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:28, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Item Box Info

Just wondering, is there a point to the whole.. Body Slot, Use Time, Damage etc being on every single item? Just curious as to the use of -1 damage on random non-combat items. --FungusTrooper 22:41, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

The item box is under discussion at Template Talk:Item infobox. At this time we are awaiting clarification from the developers regarding the values they provided. Until that is dealt with, I would prefer than no data is removed from item pages, as it will be much easier to edit the template itself. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 22:43, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Ah, makes sense. I thought there must be more to it, lol --FungusTrooper 23:15, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Monster Types

You keep reverting my monster type changes. Is "Enemy" really the only format for that section in monsters? Bobb1118 00:32, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

You may notice that your entries are creating errors on the page since the type field auto-categorizes. Feel free to start a discussion on Category Talk:Enemy NPCs, and let's see if everyone feels it needs to be broken down farther. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:35, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
I did notice. Sorry. And created that page. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Bobb1118 (talk).
No worries :D I was mostly trying to clear the error, I'm flexible with the categorization as long as we come up with a standard form, and I'd like more community input, thus the request for the discussion :D -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:44, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Page consolidation/merging

There are a few items/pages which really have no point in being on their own. For example: Phaseblades. There really is nothing that the individual pages provide that can't already be found in the main one. Because of this, I have merged them, and left behind a Categorized Redirect: ie. Yellow Phaseblade still appears under Category:Weapon items, but when clicked on, takes the user straight to Phaseblade.

Phaseblade is the exception I merged, but I don't plan to generalize the approach for 2 reasons:

  1. By prematurely merging, we are potentially undermining future edits to pages that could stand out on their own.
  2. Most items belong to a double group: For example, a Stone Wall. Would that be a Stone? Or a Wall? Imo, the best solution would be to just leave a light disambig: "This is the page for Stone Wall. It is a Stone, and a Wall", and leave it at that. Then the user can either read a full page about Bricks, or a full page about walls.

Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that my phaseblade merge was not the first of many, and am not loose on a wild merge crusade, and wanted your opinion on the matter of other pages. Happypal 07:06, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Changes of this magnitude need to be discussed before they are implemented, for that reason I am going to revert your changes. Please feel free to begin a discussion on Talk:Phaseblade. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 07:32, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

I've got the same idea going with the individual Environment pages. Unless more information is found out about each different biome, I'd say we consolidate each page into the Environments page. MarekkPie 15:09, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

I took the conversation (strictly relating to Environment) to talk:Environment. Happypal 15:30, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

German Translation

Hey, i have a question regarding item / monster names. Should i keep the official english names, or should i translate them into unofficial german names? Bow Artist3 16:16, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

bump ._. Bow Artist3 14:24, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
You'd just take the page name as it is but add '/de' at the end. IKJames 15:49, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
That's not my question, that's what i'm doing anyway =P The content of the pages also uses these english names, and some of them (like Zapinator) are not easy to translate since the english word itself is only used in this game. Bow Artist3 19:45, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
What is going to be easiest for the community you are creating it for? I would assume that the German community is going to probably search the in game terms, so they would search Zapinator, not some bizarrely chosen German translation of it. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 20:02, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
And for easier item names like Wooden Arrow just the german translations. So it depends on the case i think. ok thanks for your help :) Bow Artist3 20:03, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

crafting template

I just made a pretty big change to the template, so that images are generated next to the item. I don't think I broke anything, but there are a lot of pages to check. It was a very ugly edit, because all the templates used links inside of their fields (i.e.: "[[table]]" instead of the raw "table"). I had to make heavy use of the replace parser expression. Do you like the result? Are there some tweaks you would like to see? I get a green light, I'd like to remove all links inside the fields of existing pages. It should make any future maintenance/evolution to the template much easier. Happypal 09:12, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

I saw that, and I'm not totally sold on the idea. because the images are all different sizes, their inclusion in these templates tends to end up looking really messy. You might want to think about utilizing the {{item link}} template to shorten the code, but I'm really going to have to see what this ends up looking like before giving in. This wiki is pretty clean, and I'd like to keep it that way. The Alchemy Station in particular looks bad due to the size of the image.-- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 09:16, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Hum, I lost my edit due to an ignored edit conflict. Yeah, I agree, not perfect yet, In particular because of alchemy station. Happypal 09:27, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
This User:Wynthyst/Sandbox would have achieved the same result, without all the crappy coding. In the future, when wishing to do major changes to templates that are used on so many pages, please work out your proposal in your personal sandbox and present it for discussion rather than simply implementing it. This will eliminate the unnecessary parsing of all these changes across all the pages the template is used on when you don't know if it will be approved by the community. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 09:28, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

It does not achieve the same result, because you loose the alignment on the image. See before and after. Further more, it requires re-editing every page on the wiki. I did test it in my own sandbox. Happypal 09:35, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Main page suggestion

You should have the text "The game" (for one it's a grammar error, game should be capitalized) link to a page that says "You just lost the game." :P Bobb1118 23:28, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

LOL! I fixed the capitalization, not so sure about the link though :P Btw, I hope that the changes in enemy categorizations meet your approval now? -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 23:37, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes they are. I hope you don't mind me editing the template for the monster statistics, doesn't change any existing edits but it was so for the worm type monsters I could hide the Type category, as its redundant to give each section of the monster the same type, environment, etc. And made it so monsters can be multiple types. Bobb1118 23:50, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
It was fitting with the rest of the stuff we were doing. I just get concerned when people start making undiscussed changes of major proportions on these widely used templates. I'm all about getting community input on stuff, rather than just have everyone making free-for-all changes. I was provided with very limited npc information from the developers to get this wiki set up, so I know stuff needs to be more flexible, but at that point I had not even played the game, so really wasn't sure what was really required. Also, as the game progresses with updates and additional content, we want to be able to grow with it. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:05, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Well for having known you for a few days now I'll make sure to discuss more with you when I have an idea. :P Lol keep forgetting to add my sig Bobb1118 00:10, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Navigation boxes

I noticed the Template:Gold navigation box, and I started adding it for other material types, and I added one for Template:Swords since I saw other weapon nav boxes. Am I going in the right direction here? Should these pages also get categories for their item and material types? I want to help with navigation but I don't want to make a mess if there's already another direction the site is going. Vissith 00:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Nav boxes are fine. Easily modified if necessary. As for categorization, that's being accomplished more through the infoboxes, but that may change in the future. Keep up the good work! -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 01:23, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Great, I will continue with my sweeping edits ^_^ Vissith 01:34, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

RfA?

Just wondering if there will be any RfAs for the wiki in future. If you haven't heard of it before, it's called Requests for Adminship where people can vote and nominate people for sysops etc. Juze User Juze sig icon 15:11, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

I don't think so, voting doesn't seem to fit - people will choose favorites instead of people who really deserve it. IKJames 15:49, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
It's up to admins to give the final decision though, it basically works with "yes", "no" and "neutral". People can't actually vote their favourites, they need to show actual reasons behind it for the management. For example, here's the RFA page I created (nevermind, it was some other wiki) for Transformice Wiki: [1]. Juze User Juze sig icon 16:05, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Wynthyst is aware of how RfA's work and has previous experience with them. However, given the newness of the community, she will likely appoint some sysops initially and let the community create the process for the select/removal sysops at a later date. --JonTheMon 16:11, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Jon is correct. I am spending a little time getting to know the community, and will appoint 2-3 admins once I feel I have found the right people. RfA's this early in the life of a community would be difficult, as no one really knows anyone, few have accumulated any sort of reputation in the community, except among their particular group of friends. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 17:48, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Floating Islands research page

Where to test stuff

I've tried googling around for process on this and I'm not finding it. What's the right place to put a new or modified template for testing? Should I use something like Template:Vissith/test for templates and User:Vissith/sandbox for layout experiments? Vissith 10:00, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia users use sandboxes under the user. --Demian 10:07, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
I can't figure out where they screw around with templates, though. I assume they have to be under Template: right? Vissith 10:15, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Nope, you can transclude anything. However, template pages are, by designed, meant to be trancluded. To transclude a page that is not a template, you need to prefix it with : like this {{:user:happypal/Test}}. Happypal 10:22, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Speedy delete

I noticed you deleted template:Speedydelete. I wanted to know if it was because

  1. You think having the extra template is redundant.
  2. It is easier on you if everything is tagged as a normal non-speedy delete (only 1 page to supervise).

I'm mostly asking to know if I should still tag vandal pages as speedy or not. Happypal 10:29, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

It was deleted because Template:Delete already has the existing feature with {{delete|reason|speedy}}. And yes, you can tag them as speedy, and you should tag all reduntant stuff with speedy. Juze User Juze sig icon 16:54, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
What Juze said :D -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 17:24, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Guide:

Why would you disagree with moving Getting started to Guide:Getting started? That's the essential thing of arranging the wiki, especially when a root page of Guide: is made. "Getting started" is not an actual part of Terraria (as it's in mainspace at the moment), it's a guide. Juze User Juze sig icon 06:31, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Because the namespace Guides is messed up right now. Once it's fixed they will all be moved, but until then they can't be. If you try to move them you are going to mess up the talk pages. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 06:45, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Just out of curiosity, will there be an actual wiki namespace, or just "Guide:" prefixed pages? Happypal 06:47, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
There will actually be a wiki namespace.. in fact there already is, but there is no associated talk space, which is where the problem is coming in. We have been trying to fix it for 3 days. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 06:49, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
That's what I thought. Happypal 06:50, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Finally got it working correctly, and the pages have been moved. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:10, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Project Translations

I've given this some though, and I think it would be better if translated pages were in a namespaces, eg "de:Iron Pickaxe", instead of Subpages. This would be beneficial on many points:

  1. A clear splicing of the projects: English is mainspace, de is German namespace etc...
  2. It would solve a lot of the template problems our translators seem to be having: PAGENAME resolves to the un-namespaced pagename, and would solve things like icons not appearing in translated infoboxes
  3. Also by using the NAMESPACE macro, and a {{language link|somepage}} template (for example), we can make write templates that can work in any language (this would be particularly useful for navboxes, for example)

I'm not saying we do all this right now (or ever, if the language projects tank), but I think having dedicated namespaces would be a good start. Furthermore, if we want the projects to flourish, I also think it is important we show support (or at least act like we plan to).
I'm not sure how much behind the scene work is involved in the creation of a namespace, so I don't know how much I'm asking, but for anything actual on wiki editing, I'm available for work (I'm thinking a lot of page moves would be involved). Happypal 09:53, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately it's not really an option to provide a separate namespace for each project. It's taking me days to get the Guides namespace working (I don't have direct access to the configs, I have to request it done by someone else and then it has to wait to come to the top of their priority list), and I want the translation projects to be able to be generated as the community wants to add them. The pages will only reside on this wiki until they have translated enough to merit their own subdomain, and then they will all be exported from here and deleted. Technically, they should not be translating templates, but I'm just not willing to fight that fight again, I did it on MCW, and it's just more work than I care to deal with at this point. They will most likely have to redo all the templates once they get moved to their subdomain anyway. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 10:08, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough. I wasn't sure how much work was required. You speak with more experience in the matter than I do. Happypal 10:15, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Factual information vs Opinionated information

If a video that is embedded on a wiki page has some facts, but the video is mostly their thoughts on the weapon, should it remain?

RE: Categorization

If you're referring to Template:!!, I categorized it the same as Template:!. :P I'll go ahead and fix that one. ;) --~Markus 03:18, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

LOL! Well played... I was in a hurry :P -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 04:20, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Frontier for translation project

Hello. I want to know, what is a frontier in number of translated articles by "crossing" which you will plan to create language subdomain? Ctrl+C 09:32, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Well, I would like to see the majority of the red links gone from the mainpage. While most of the mainpage is links, the majority of the pages are short. If they are at least created, if not fully finished, I'd be willing to request the subdomain be set up. When the subdomain is created, all pages in the translation category will be exported, as well as all images. I would also like to see you and your fellow editors come to an agreement of who is going to act as administrators on the new wiki prior to the creation of the subdomain. I would ask that this discussion take place on the project talk page in English, so that it is clear for the rest of the community. Thanks for your great effort! -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 10:24, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Remember that all the pages will need to be moved to their Russian names once they are imported to the new wiki. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 10:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Russian community almost translated all pages from main page. Most of translators/writers are from Russian Terraria site so I will come to an agreement with admins and most active translators about mod/admin rights. Will we get subdomain now? Ctrl C avatar Ctrl+C at 15:27, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Title Link

I've noticed you added to a lot of pages a link to the page's own title: http://wiki.terrariaonline.com/index.php?title=Eater_of_Souls&action=historysubmit&diff=4845&oldid=4640
Is there any special reason for such a scheme, as opposed to a standard, '''Titles in bold'''? happypal (talk • contribs) 06:44, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Self linking is the prefered way to do it, it achieves the same result, and allows for automatic link back if the page or text is ever transcluded somewhere else. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 06:46, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Seems odd to me, as I believe code should infer intent, and that mainspace preferably shouldn't be tanscluded, but I can go with it. happypal (talk • contribs) 07:43, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Merge/Move Hiatus

I just wanted to say I was putting a pause on the moving things to plural. It is not that important, and I'd rather be doing something more productive, and hopefully be doing things productively with you rather than against you. I still think the moves are correct, but I'll live with it for now.
I was (imo relatively) hasty with the merges because 1) I think they are un-arguably correct and 2) by limiting our amount of useless pages, we are making life easier for our editors. My fear is editors wasting their efforts on a page that will un-doubtfully end up merged: Not only will that editor waste his efforts, but he might even feel as if his edits have been deleted. Not that I'm necessarily saying it was correct to do it this fast, but that is the explanation for my haste. 3) There is nothing I (and I believe others) hate more than coming on a page to find the only content is "A silver coin is a coin made of silver." I will not be proposing any more merges for a while either.
I currently have an ongoing merge request over at Coin. There has been community feed back, and it has been positive. I am handing over to you the responsibility of that page, to do as you feel is best, at the rate you feel is best. happypal (talk • contribs) 08:08, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

I understand, but where I'm coming from is that this is a VERY young game, and a very young wiki. We literally have no idea what may be added to it whether soon, or late. I would rather see as MANY possibilities for our community, either to edit, or to find information. This is something I battle with my boss about as well. On day 3 of the life of this wiki he was crying that we didn't have any guides (and he wants guides on EVERYTHING). Now, while we don't have a lot, the ones we have are being developed with mini edits from many editors, and will in the long run be more comprehensive and helpful to players than most guides you find on forums that are written and controlled by a single point of view. This takes time. Someone may see the Silver Coin page and say... this needs a list of all the items that can be purchased with silver coins from the NPCs..... I would rather have every short page tagged as a stub and be available for development that rush to merge them into conglomerate pages. I've begged and pleaded for patience. I haven't gotten it from you or my boss, you both rush into stuff without really giving things a chance. I will caution you about my definition of discussion and consensus. It does not mean, post a question, and wait for one person to agree with you, nor does it end in 24 hrs, or even 3 days.. there are editors that may only log in once a week, and find something they'd been working on has been moved, merged, deleted. I understand that discussion and consensus takes time... I have spent months developing policies and templates on other wikis, going back and forth with ideas, and it is difficult sometimes, especially when you have the tools at your fingertips to just do stuff NOW, but in the end, you get a much better result through patience and diligence. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 08:29, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
It is also because it is a young wiki that I believe that a quick merge can be profitable. There is so much work to do, it avoids spreading out efforts needlessly. Regardless of my opinion, I've had my way every other time, so I'll do it your way this time. I stubbed and linked all the other coin pages. happypal (talk • contribs) 08:56, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Also, the relative age of the wiki is also my justification for the short wait, the wiki is so young, an entire week as practically the entire wiki's lifetime :D happypal (talk • contribs) 08:58, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Patrolling

Just to let you know I've begun patrolling the mainspace english recent edit feed. This should help us keep track of what has/hasn't been validated by one of us yet. happypal (talk • contribs) 08:14, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
