The Dirt Rod is a unique tool that is used solely to move Dirt Blocks around, and is unlike the use of ordinary mining tools and block placement. When used while the cursor is over a Dirt Block, the block becomes a dirt ball that sticks to the cursor as long as the ⚒ Use / Attack key is held down. The dirt ball can be carried through blocks and relocated anywhere on the screen. When released, the dirt ball is affected by gravity and also continues to carry the speed it was being moved at previously, allowing it to be "thrown". Upon impact with any blocks, a released dirt ball turns back into a solid Dirt Block.
The Dirt Rod is purchased from the Dryad for 5 () / 20 ().
Tips[]
- The Dirt Rod allows triggering a trap from long range by removing a Dirt Block, such as a Boulder trap.
- Players can wall themselves in from danger and rearrange the area. This may include walling off remote passages and bridging large lava pools.
- Liquid combination machines, like two separate tanks with water and lava, connected by a pipe at the bottom, can be toggled by opening/"sealing" the pipe.
- The Dirt Rod loses some of its usefulness once the Mechanic is found, as mechanisms generally offer a more sophisticated method of constructing traps and liquid systems.
- The Dirt Rod can also pick up most Grasses, turning them into dirt in the process. This can help get rid of isolated Hallowed/Corrupt/Crimson grass under the surface.
- The Dirt Rod can be used to place Dirt Blocks inside of lava.
- The Dirt Rod can be used to break statues.
Trivia[]
- The Dirt Rod has an internal knockback stat of 5. However, this is never utilized in-game as this tool cannot deal damage.
- When it was initially released, the Dirt Rod had a bug where falling tiles would get caught inside of the projectile, allowing it to do tons of damage.
- The Dirt Rod can be used to put dirt outside the world border, but cannot retrieve it.
