Empty Bullets are a Hardmode crafting material purchased from the Arms Dealer for 5 / 3 each. While they have no function as ammunition on their own, Empty Bullets are used to craft Hardmode bullets with special effects.

Trivia

• An Empty Bullet is the cheapest purchasable item from NPCs.
  • On the  Old-gen console version,  Windows Phone version, and Nintendo 3DS version, the only items with a lower cost are Water Fountains, the Balla Hat, and the Gangsta Hat, which are sold—or rather given away—for free.
• Despite their name, empty bullets are actually cartridge casing. "Cartridge" being the correct term for a bullet, casing, powder, and primer.
• Each special bullet uses a component sold by a different vendor. Exploding - Demolitionist, Golden - Merchant, High Velocity - Steampunker, Nano - Cyborg, Party - Party Girl, and Venom - Witch Doctor.
• It is technically possible to obtain Empty Bullets Pre-Hardmode by obtaining Party Bullets via a Pigronata and de-crafting them using Shimmer. However, the materials required to craft any bullets other than Party Bullets are still unobtainable Pre-Hardmode.
