The Pixie is a Hardmode enemy that spawns frequently in The Hallow at the surface layer. Pixies hover a limited height over ground, emitting a fair amount of flickering light, and can inflict the Slow or Silenced debuffs. It always drops Pixie Dust, a common Hardmode crafting material. Can also drop Mechanical Worm.

Pixies are immune to the Poisoned, On Fire!, Cursed Inferno, Confused and Shadowflame debuffs.

Tips

  • Ranged attacks may have a hard time hitting Pixies because they are fast, small, and moving vertically even on flat ground.
  • They seem to never touch the ground, so to make lava traps effective against them, the player would have to force them into the lava pool. This can be accomplished by building V-shaped or half-V-shaped triangle masses, and give them smooth diagonal edges using the hammer. As they continue to move toward the diagonal edge, the forward momentum against the diagonal edge will force them to the floor, into a waiting lava pool. They'll take about 3 hits before floating away from the corner, but will most likely return.
  • They are still vulnerable to Traps involving mechanisms, like the Dart Trap, although it will take several shots to kill one.
  • Although they "fly", they are only capable of hovering about 4 tiles above the ground at most, basically limiting them to the same "jumping" range as a zombie. They are therefore vulnerable to pits to waylay them, or, if filled with traps, can easily be farmed for their dust so long as the player keeps an eye out for Wraiths. This only works if the player lures them into the traps by standing in the pit themselves, since while they can't technically fly, pixies can scale sheer walls to get to and attack the player.

Trivia

  • The Fairy Bell summons a Fairy which looks similar to a Pixie, and serves as a light source to players.
  • The Pixie's design may be a nod to a fairy design from The Legend of Zelda, in which some fairies are spheres of colored light with wings. In addition, its has a similar look to Tatl, the fairy from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
  • Pixies will usually drop only the Megaphone or Fast Clock at a time, but there is an additional 1% chance it will drop the other item at the same time. The chance to get both at the same time is 0.005% (0.01% in expert mode).
  • The sound the Pixie makes can sometimes still be heard a few seconds after it's killed.
