The Flamelash is a magic weapon that launches a controllable ball of fire, similar to the Magic Missile. It is obtained from Shadow Chests in The Underworld. It can also be found in the Obsidian Lock Box found in Obsidian Crates and Hellstone Crates. When the ⚒ Use / Attack button is released, the Flamelash's projectile keeps its course until it hits something. The projectile can be controlled for up to one minute before dissipating.
If an enemy is nearby, the projectile will home into the enemy on release. It can also pierce one enemy, retaining its homing ability and exploding on contact with a second enemy or block.
Its best modifier is Mythical.
Notes[]
- The mana cost is for the initial casting only. Maintaining and directing the projectile does not cost additional mana, and the player will regenerate mana while controlling it.
- The projectile fired by the Flamelash cannot enter water or honey and will dissipate on contact. It can be controlled in lava, however.
- Attempting to use the Flamelash while at least partially submerged in any liquid fails, and does not consume mana. Oddly, this includes lava.
- The Flamelash will veer in whichever direction the player is moving if fired up or down.
- The projectile moves at about 90 mph.
Although the projectile visibly increases in size after hitting the first enemy, the second hit does not inflict additional damage.- The Flamelash cannot be retextured.
Tips[]
- The light particles that the projectile emits can fall deep into the ground, illuminating the area below even if it is not hollow. This is useful for finding undiscovered caverns or ores.
- Because of its controllable nature, the Flamelash can be used to safely clear out overgrown caves, while providing light. It will also clear Thorny bushes without fading away and can easily dispatch Hornets.
- It has potential to be an effective magic weapon well into Hardmode.
Projectiles can hit a target twice if given enough space, it will pierce the enemy and then circle around to hit it once more.- The explosion of the projectile can affect enemies through thin walls and doors.
- Using a target dummy that is being rapidly moved around by teleporters, you can force the piercing attack to constantly move around in a circle trying to home in on the dummies. This can be repeated many times, allowing you to “store” massive amounts of damage before summoning a boss.
