Spawn rate / events

Similar to other Critters, goldfishs' spawn rates are affected by battle potions, water candles and events. many events increase critter spawn rate however they also increase the amount of distractions due to enemies. if you want to use events you should consider a host of variables such as; can you survive the onslaught of enemies whilst farming; how many goldfish will be killed by monsters; do you care if your fish are corrupted; and how often do you want to summon the event.

Farm construction

you may have made yourself a massive pool using your bottomless water bucket but have found that you rarely have any fish spawn. this can be fixed.

goldfish do not spawn in water tiles, they spawn on blocks that have water above them. this means that even if you have a massive pool of water your goldfish will only spawn at the bottom of your pool. to solve this problem you should build platforms submerged in your pool every few blocks vertically. this will drastically increase the spawn rate of your fish. however it will make accessing your fish a hassle. you can make collection easy by using bubbles to make a chute of air in the center of your pool. the fish will swim into this chute and fly witlessly into your grasps.

other methods to increase spawn rate.

when moving into frame there seems to be slightly increased spawn rates. this means if you do not have other methods to increase spawn rate it may help to run in and out of sight of your farm.
