crafts templates for czech language

Hey Equazcion, I'd like to ask if you could help me change craft templates for Czech language. It'd take me more time to understand what parameters from one template are used in another one, than asking you for help. So is it possible to change those templates so they'd display Czech names and link to "EN/cz" pages? I have tried but made this mess Stone Block/cz :/ Thanks for you answer Kvikk (talk)

I think I got this fixed. You'll need to use "item1cz" and "item2cz" etc to provide czech names for ingredients. You were actually almost there yourself, it wasn't a mess at all :) Let me know if it's working the way you need. Equazcion (talk) 13:36, 1 Jul 2015 (UTC)
You are awesome (/me giving you cookie)! But I want to ask you to check it again, please. I maybe, somehow messed it up and can't find where I did something wrong -.- Everything works fine, until I have item that is composed of 3 items. It puts "item3amout" into "item2" and "item3cz" into "item2cz". Sorry for bothering you with this! Kvikk (talk) 15:47, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
The template code was fine. On the page you were just putting some of the amount numbers before the czech names. Also remember the trailing | after the czech name even when there is no amount number. See here for the edit. Equazcion (talk) 15:57, 1 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Oh and thanks for the cookie, it was delicious :) Equazcion (talk) 15:59, 1 Jul 2015 (UTC)
I'm such a Derp -.- I got it now! Until now I thought I'm good at this stuff… So again – thank you very much. Kvikk (talk) 16:05, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
Template code is very strange, it still gives me plenty of trouble often. No problem :) Equazcion (talk) 16:13, 1 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Adding sold items

Ok so its been a while since ive done this, but i recently got a http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Yellow_Counterweight# from the Skeleton Merchant. I forgot to get proof for it but could you give me instructions on how to add a item from the Skeletons merchants "items sold" tab? it would really help if you talked to me about this, please email me thesquiddy@gmail.com or reply to this message.Template:Unsigned2

It looks like the item has now been added. See here for how that was done. Equazcion (talk) 10:29, 2 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Unobtainable items

I think the All Fragment Axes and Hammers are unobtainable too.Template:Unsigned2

Looks like you're right. Thanks, I'll get them fixed up. Equazcion (talk) 02:54, 5 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Thanks

I can't believe Terraria has gotten this far! I just wanted to thank all you at Terraria wiki for helping me from being a noob with a Copper shortsword to being a person with a True Night`s edge! Keep up the edits :) From Retanizer aka RetaR (talk) 20:52, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

We sure will! Appreciate the kudos, it's good to know that what we do helps :) Equazcion (talk) 20:57, 5 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Last Prism trivia section

Yo, just to touch base and make sure I'm not overstepping my bounds, I'm just making you aware of the edit warring on the Last Prism page. I've stepped up its protection to autoconfirmed and left a warning on the talk page, but I'm concerned that further involvement on my part could be construed as (or even might be) abuse of power. I think I've got it under control, but if you feel the need, go ahead and step in. Gearzein (talk) 06:23, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Indefinite was overkill, but I agree with semi-protection to help prevent all the "may be a reference to" trivia from being re-added. That material is a matter of wiki policy and can warrant protection. I lowered the expiry to 3 days; we can always escalate if need be. Equazcion (talk) 06:53, 6 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Image link template change?

Did the image link template change at some point? I noticed just now that on the mount page some images were linked as follows: Pigron Mount. This image links to the file instead of the actual Pigron Mount page like it used to at some point. (Unless I remember incorrectly?) Adding "link=" to the image link like this: Mount Pigron makes the image link correctly. Did you run an automated task to fix all the image links and it missed some pages? -- DataNalle (talk) 23:01, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

If you mean the [[File: syntax, that's not a template, but a basic MediaWiki feature that wouldn't have changed. Bare text with no "link=", "frame", or "thumb" becomes tooltip text for the image, and nothing more. This is how it's always worked.
The page previously used linking templates for mount buff images ([1]): {{item link}}, which automatically creates linked images, and which is what we use in most cases on this wiki. When all the 1.3 editing started, someone changed the images to the actual mount characters, and did so manually via [[File: without a template -- so no automatic image links. Equazcion (talk) 01:04, 7 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Lunar_Portal_Staff

Hey you just re-edidet my edit on Lunar_Portal_Staff because I was too stupid to actually make the gif appear. I made a better one. Could you explain it how I can edit it? I copied " File:True_Nights_Edge_Animation.gif|frame|Animation of the True Night's Edge. " (with the brackets) from another page and changed the text and the right, changed the File Name and uploaded the file but it did not seem to work. Thank you for your help. Template:Unsigned2

If you're trying to get File:Lunar Portal Animation.gif to show up on the Lunar Portal Staff page now, just replace the "File:Lunar Portal Animation-Light.gif" with "File:Lunar Portal Animation.gif". It appears just under the {{stub}} text. I might be misunderstanding what you're asking, but I hope that helps :) Equazcion (talk) 16:44, 10 Jul 2015 (UTC)

EDIT: I got it to work. Another question: Is it okay to update older gifs? Most of them look fragmented and damaged. Template:Unsigned2

Yes, simply click the existing GIF and then click the "Upload a new version of this file" link. It's just below the file history. Equazcion (talk) 16:49, 10 Jul 2015 (UTC)
It's only the thumbnails that look fragmented and damaged because they are encoded incorrectly. If you look at the GIF you recently uploaded even that thumbnail looks bad but animation is fine once you open the file page. --DataNalle (talk) 16:57, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
Some actual GIFs do look pretty bad, like the one at Christmas Tree Sword. I wouldn't say this particular one is "damaged", just poorly made -- but some might be. On most article pages you shouldn't be seeing thumbnails (of animated GIFs), so if you do see GIFs that looks odd, feel free to upload new versions. Equazcion (talk) 17:02, 10 Jul 2015 (UTC)

New notice concerning 1.3

Reading the new notice ("Editors, please note: When updating information" [...]), I had to wonder: just how crazy has it been this week? This is obviously a low priority question, but I'm curious nonetheless.--Macks2008 (talk) 02:24, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

It's been pretty nuts, we've got over 1,000 "active" editors according to the stat on the main page vs the 200 or so we normally average. I'd gotten used to being able to examine practically all edits but now we're back to relying on everyone for reverts and vandal reports etc.
The PC vs console/mobile thing is a pretty muddy area that we don't currently have a great system for addressing. I actually don't think we can expect most editors to appreciate the need to do much more than simply replace old info with new info, especially all the drive-by editors we were bound to see a lot of around this update. Maybe the notice will help but I'm wary of forcing new people to either deal with our half-assed approach or be scared away.
Anyway, yeah it's been much more active, but that's a good thing :) Equazcion (talk) 05:30, 11 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Helping Out: How to create GIFs for users of this wiki.

I made a Page on "How to Create GIFs for new users": http://terraria.gamepedia.com/User:M0ritz (saved on my Page). Maby this can be the foundation for a new site in the HELP category.

I created this this site because I was sick of seeing GIFs like this one: http://terraria.gamepedia.com/File:BeamSwordAttack.gif

Too many distractions and particles, no clean look and a random things distracting new players from the Animation of the sword.

I also would like to get Feedback. It's my first time on a wiki - I created about 30 gifs for this one but I don't know if that was okay or not since there seems to be no feedback.

Thank you for reading.Template:Unsigned2

It was fine! You won't generally get much feedback unless there's a problem :) Your GIFs are actually excellent, and I think they've really improved the articles.
I like the idea of creating a little manual on GIF creation, and your looks good. You could copy it to a new page in the Guide: section (click Guide:Creating animated GIFs and copy the code there, for example). Equazcion (talk) 15:10, 11 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Okay i created the page. Another question: I would like to add a "TL:DR" Box at the top right corner, like the item box for every item ... Is this possible? And would you recommend editing the pages with the visual editor or the source editor? The visual editor only always shows a blank page for me so I had to do everything with the source editor and read something about the mark up to create tabls etc...— Preceding unsigned comment added by M0ritz (talkcontribs) at 16:26, 12 Jul 2015 (UTC)

I'll get a template up for TL;DR in a few minutes (it'll be called {{nutshell}}).
I recommend editing using the source code editor in general, as Visual Editor has never really been reliable, and is much slower. Wikipedia's newer marketing-oriented management created Visual Editor and have been attempting to push it into regular use for some time, but it's frankly still so awful that the community of Wikipedia editors refused to allow that. Roughly a quarter to one half of all Visual Editor edits leave something unintentional behind. Equazcion (talk) 16:40, 12 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Thank you! --M0ritz (talk) 15:13, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Disappearing drops

The items will disappear after a few minutes if you don't pick it up. Is it a new feature of 1.3 or is it an old feature did exist in the older version? Template:Unsigned2

I don't know offhand if this is true, but if it is, it would be a new thing. Although older drops always disappeared if too many new drops appeared afterward, or upon exiting a world. Equazcion (talk) 17:20, 15 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Earlier I had items lying on the ground for about 10 minutes and they never despawned. Are you sure they do despawn over time? MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 17:25, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Vine

Doesn't my edit also work for the vine page? I mean, when I read it, it made perfect sense and I even checked if it was grammatically incorrect.Template:Unsigned2

Sorry I missed this comment before. Your edit changed the text to say "Vine is a crafting material...", however this implies that the word "vine" is akin to a substance, as in "water is clear". A vine is an individual object, so your sentence could be analogous to saying "piano is black", or "apple is red" — whereas "pianos are black," and "apples are red" (or "an apple is red"), would be the grammatically correct statements, respectively. Equazcion (talk) 18:31, 16 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Article Problems or my internet?

I was recently scrolling and looking at dyes, until I saw that the "Type" Part in the Infobox said something like: Catergory|Dye {Template:Dye]. Is it my internet or a bug? OMGIHAVENOUSERNAMEOMG (talk) 02:04, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm messing with the infobox templates at the moment, adding a little feature. I'll have it smoothed out in a moment. It's not your PC :) Equazcion (talk) 02:06, 16 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Ok, good. I got worried there -3- OMGIHAVENOUSERNAMEOMG (talk) 03:03, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

hey Equazcion Dash here again from the Curse video team

Hey Equazcion,

Mitch/Dash here from the Curse video team, we spoke briefly a while back about collaborations in terms of videos, however I went dark as Gamepedia got shut down (my fault, apologies) the good news is that I have moved into the Curse team and they are extremely interested in covering Terraria more in depth and even have their own private server in the office.

Is there a way to grab your email, so our other hosts and content creators could talk to you about video ideas and embedding? much appreciated!

Thanks, Mitch— Preceding unsigned comment added by CrsDash (talkcontribs) at 18:06, 16 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Sure, but I'd rather not post a plain-text email address publicly here. If you email me via the sidebar link to the left ("Email this user"), I'll reply via regular email and you'll have my address.
Also note that things like video topic choices, locations for embedding, and questions of content might better be discussed openly on the wiki. You can still feel free to contact me via email nonetheless, as well as pass on my email address to anyone else who'd like to contact me that way. Equazcion (talk) 18:20, 16 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry about my stupid edit that I made yesterday on the S.D.M.G's page. I feel pretty stupid about that now— Preceding unsigned comment added by Majesticputin (talkcontribs) at 21:26, 16 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Don't worry about it. We all do stupid things here and correct each other. :) Equazcion (talk) 21:30, 16 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Hello Equazcion, I was wondering, you changed the template for the NPC, but you took the banner=yes as a drop, and placed it as a characteristic of the monster itself, that's because... If you click on the banner you get the info on how it's dropped? --Frenchiveruti (talk) 02:50, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Yup, that's the idea. Equazcion (talk) 03:02, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
So... I didn't fucked up, good. :D --Frenchiveruti (talk) 03:04, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Enemy Banners

What's up with the enemy banners being in the Infobox and not where the drops are? Sorry for asking, I just wanna know. OMGIHAVENOUSERNAMEOMG (talk) 03:11, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Read my question right above this one. --Frenchiveruti (talk) 03:16, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
We decided to switch banners from being an ordinary drop in the list to a separate infobox section. See User talk:Gearzein#Banner drop rates. Equazcion (talk) 03:51, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Swamp Thing

Hey Eq, could you please delete the Swamp Thing from the page? It's now showing the transparency correctly, I'll reupload it, or you can reupload it too, thanks! --Frenchiveruti (talk) 04:04, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

There's no need to delete it, just use the "upload new version" link on the image page. It'll be replaced. Equazcion (talk) 04:08, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
If you open it you'll see what I mean, there's like 4 new uploads from me, and it keeps failing ); Frenchiveruti (talk) 04:10, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
This wiki has a strange image caching system. It can take up to 15 minutes for changed images to actually update and display their changes. If the last one you uploaded was the updated version, just wait a little while and do a Ctrl-F5 (hard refresh) every once in a while if you want to check. It'll show up at some point soon. Equazcion (talk) 04:16, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Ok, so patience is a virtue, it's funny because when I revert, it displays the transparent background :P--Frenchiveruti (talk) 04:18, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Living flame dye

Hi, why do you erase my changes in Living Flame Dye article?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Oriloun (talkcontribs) at 16:21, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)

I don't think I removed any of your additions. I only moved things around to conform with other article's formats. Equazcion (talk) 16:24, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
I think that we must write about the Solar wings in article. Not so much people looking on additional screenshots. Oriloun (talk) 17:07, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
I'm not so sure about that -- but, again, I didn't remove it. Equazcion (talk) 16:37, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
As I said in comment to my wikichange I can proove it. Oriloun (talk) 17:41, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
You win. ;) Equazcion (talk) 16:46, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I'm playin right now. And I was wery surprised too =)Oriloun (talk) 17:50, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Abuse filter acting up?

The filter that catches modifier names should have been disabled some time ago. It's not still suppressing page creation somehow, is it? Gearzein (talk) 17:35, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

No, I just didn't realize it had been disabled. That's my bad. It prevented a few creations in April and May and I just assumed it was still in effect. Equazcion (talk) 17:43, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Huh, I could have sworn it was disabled before that, because it was giving users the business about Deadly Spheres when the solar eclipse news came out back in January. There were too many false positives for it to work correctly against the small number of times where that mistake is made.
Also, unrelated, but I could definitely stand to be more careful in copying code. It's actually super embarrassing to make that mistake! Gearzein (talk) 17:57, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
It was pretty reasonable to assume the code would just add sections to the current page, so don't be too embarrassed. No matter how careful you are you'll still overlook things like that from time to time :) Equazcion (talk) 18:07, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Lantern wiring

I've added a few sentences to the lantern article and need someone to improve it. Due to your recent activity on the lantern article I thought I could ask you. That's what I've added to the article >> "Lanterns can be toggles on and off via wires. It's important to notice that the wire needs to connect to the chain of a lamp. If the wire is connected to the bulb itself, it will still emit light in its off state. (somebody please improve this. I'm bad at english and writing wiki articles.)" If you have some time please have a look at it and either undo or improve it.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Intopf (talkcontribs) at 11:21, 19 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Your wording isn't too bad, but I believe the statement is wrong. Which lantern did you test this with? Equazcion (talk) 11:27, 19 Jul 2015 (UTC)
I first found this weird behaivor on a glass lantern. I just tested a Shadewood and a Steampunk Lantern with the same result. You can easily reproduce this. Set up a dark room, place the lantern and place wire to the bulb instead of the chain. use a switch to toggle the lightbulb on and off. You will notice that the room is still litten up. Do this again but this time place the wire to the chain. You will notice the difference. It might be a bug. I don't know. And sorry that the formatting of my text is bad. But as I said, I have no clue to properly use a wiki. Intopf (talk) 10:28, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
I made a video to proof it to you but you can still test this on your own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYqXBk_cK5A Intopf (talk) 10:45, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
I watched your video and then tested this myself using those lanterns. I wasn't able to reproduce this. The lanterns' light turns off completely whether the wire is connected to the chain or bulb, in my tests. I noticed you have some sort of cheat mod, or something similar, in your video -- it's possible those are causing the glitch...? Equazcion (talk) 23:53, 20 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Lol. Yes it seems to be a bug then. I'm using the official dedicated server tool. I also can't reproduce this bug in singleplayer. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your time :) ps: I don't use any mods other than the third party tool TerrariaInvEdit.61. It's probably a bug in the server software. I'll report it to them. Intopf (talk) 11:21, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Chinese prefix

I noticed you added chs to the prefix table. Before I noticed this, I had already left a message for one of the translators regarding its code while it's on the english wiki, and in doing so recommended the prefix zh with a few alternatives; I did this to maintain consistency with the use of zhtw for Taiwanese Chinese. What do you think we should go with? Gearzein (talk) 03:13, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Never mind, I see you've changed the table already. Gearzein (talk) 03:19, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
The wiki software has pre-entered languages attached to language codes. ZH, which apparently produces the plain "Chinese" link (this is in the software, or the software's config files that we don't have access to), currently redirects to ZHTW. I'm hoping there's another code that'll produce an adequate "Chinese" language link that we can redirect to these "CHS" pages currently being created.
It's kind of a confusing process, possibly made more complicated by the use of some inaccurate codes early on -- I don't think ZH was supposed to be used for ZHTW, but that would be difficult to change now. I'm not sure exactly how to go about this but I'm hoping to muddle through. We might need some Curse intervention though. Equazcion (talk) 03:21, 20 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Looks like I found the right code: "zh-cn" produces the link "中文(中国大陆)‎", which translates to "Chinese (Mainland China)". Whew. This language stuff confuses the hell out of me. Equazcion (talk) 03:30, 20 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Thanks (2)

I just saw you clean up a change I made and realized you existed. I didn't know the wiki had admins, but it makes sense... how else would it be so great? Anyway, it seemed like a good time to say: THANK YOU for all the work you do on this wiki. I love the game and I can't imagine playing it without this resource. I'll keep helping out where I can. - Camelotcrusade (talk)

I sometimes don't realize I exist either. Thanks for the kudos, it's most appreciated :) Equazcion (talk) 07:06, 20 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Unable to edit Itailian Wiki?

Recently I was trying to create a page for the Terraria Itailian Wiki. But when I went to save my edit, it said that my edit has been subjected to a Non-Construtive edit. I put useful info into the page, not vandalism. Is there any way you can help? OMGIHAVENOUSERNAMEOMG (talk) 05:28, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

I was editing a filter for foreign translations at the time, and amazingly it managed to catch this edit (by both you and an IP shortly beforehand) in the couple of minutes it was active for testing. I actually saw the edit to Steampunker get caught in the log and everything. You didn't actually get flagged as a vandal or anything- that was the default filter message, and what it was checking for would've flagged you regardless of page content (because I wrote it wrong). I've repaired the filter and it should be possible to create the page at Steampunker/it now. Apologies for the inconvenience! Gearzein (talk) 05:31, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
Ok, thank you Gearzein ^v^! OMGIHAVENOUSERNAMEOMG (talk) 05:37, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

subst?

I'm trying to make a couple more mobile recipe readditions, specifically the Slime Crown recipe on Altar, and I've run into something I've literally never seen before now. Template:Demon Altar Recipes has a warning to not edit the template itself, but to instead make changes to Altar itself and replace the entire template with {{subst::Altar}}.

I'm 90% sure that this is a relic of the previous owners and that this process isn't necessary any longer, as changes to the page have been made very recently with no detrimental effects on server load times, but I'm erring on the side of caution in this case, because from what I can tell from the discussions surrounding it, it was a pretty serious matter when it was implemented. Gearzein (talk) 06:01, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

You're correct, that was a real old warning and template isn't used that way anymore. The version of Altar referred to there was from when there was no Crimson version, and was deleted a long time ago. I've just updated things a bit and you can edit it. Equazcion (talk) 11:35, 25 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Interpreting source code

I'm reading through the source code to find data to add to the wiki, and I came across this "discrepancy" while researching the Distorted debuff.

if (Main.expertMode)
{
	Main.player[i].AddBuff(164, Main.rand.Next(300, 540), true);
}
else if (Main.rand.Next(2) == 0)
{
	Main.player[i].AddBuff(164, Main.rand.Next(360, 720), true);
}

In this case, it appears as if the duration for the debuff in Expert Mode is shorter than the duration in a regular world. Do you have any idea why this is?
Thanks! DoktorFox (talk) 04:05, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

No idea whatsoever, but if I had to guess I'd say that was unintended. They probably meant for those to be switched around, with Expert having the longer duration. Equazcion (talk) 04:12, 30 Jul 2015 (UTC)
I just realized why it makes sense: in Normal Mode, there's a 50% chance for the debuff to apply (that's what the Main.rand.next(2) == 0 is for), as opposed to a 100% chance in Expert Mode.
Thanks for the help, though! DoktorFox (talk) 04:35, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah, that makes sense :) No problem. Equazcion (talk) 04:40, 30 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Can you help us?

Can you help us to change the HTML tag, please?

<title>Terraria Wiki</title> → <title>欢迎来到泰拉瑞亚Wiki</title>

Thanks

Edsnybet(talk) 04:52, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

I've changed it using Javascript, which I think is the only way without requesting wiki config changes. This won't have any effect in Google results etc, but it will change the browser title display. If you wanted it changed for reasons besides the display let me know and I'll see if they can change the config settings. Equazcion (talk) 07:01, 1 Aug 2015 (UTC)

CE

So let's say one of us roving users decides to do some copyediting ourselves? What exactly is the upper limit on thesaurus usage? 76.125.252.80 09:08, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

We don't set those limits ourselves. The exact limit is 23 minutes of total thesaurus usage per day per wiki, with no more than 2 hours or 180 words per calendar week (whichever is hit first). Holidays and leap years complicate things further. Webcam users don't need to worry much: You'll be notified automatically when you're about to go over your limit, as the site tracks editor eyeball focus on synonym text not served by a wiki. Dye question

I will just askyou a question about a gif you post on this wiki.

Thanks =)— Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.196.124.60 at 16:58, 01 Aug 2015 (UTC)

That wasn't me. I only cropped a GIF someone else posted. The original author was User:Deltacrafter. I'm not sure which equipment they used. Equazcion (talk) 17:03, 1 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Shadowflame knife

Might be a silly question, but do you remember what dyes you were using in this gif you posted on the page?95.65.64.76 15:17, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

I think it was teal dye on Beetle Shell. The red fists and feet are from a Fire Gauntlet (no dye), and a Frog Leg with red dye. Equazcion (talk) 15:40, 3 Aug 2015 (UTC)

I wouldn't know, since I'm not involved in the development of the game. I just administer the wiki. You can make a suggestion at the forum though. Equazcion (talk) 20:15, 4 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Charged Blaster Cannon trivia

why did u delete the trivia i put for the charged blaster cannon — Preceding unsigned comment added by SuperBacon93 (talkcontribs) at 01:32, 05 Aug 2015 (UTC)

See trivia rules and Talk:Charged Blaster Cannon. We can't list something as a "reference" unless it's definitely what the makers of the game intended. Equazcion (talk) 04:27, 6 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Polish Wiki Help

Howdy ! I have a few question, could you please answer them for me ? It'd motivate me and help me editing the Polish Wiki ;)

How did you do the background and where did you get the picture from ? Is there any page listing ALL the pages on this wiki ? This would be so amazing :p Do you think the Polish wiki will ever catch up the English one ?

That's actually it, I don't want to overhelm you with questions, as I think you're busy :) --TheGhostCatcher (talk) 19:46, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

  • I took the background image from the Terraria forum. You can use it at your wiki by adding this to MediaWiki:Hydra.css:
body {
   background:
   url("http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/terraria.gamepedia.com/c/c7/Terraria_mushroom_background.jpg") no-repeat fixed center top / cover rgb(0, 0, 0);
}
  • Special:AllPages will show all pages in a wiki.
  • I can't really say whether or not the Polish wiki will catch up to the English one. I guess I'd suspect the English wiki will usually be ahead of most or all the other languages just because the game is originally released in English. Equazcion (talk) 00:13, 7 Aug 2015 (UTC)
Thank you very much ! So, bye :) --TheGhostCatcher (talk) 08:58, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Files

I think better idea for interwiki files is making in English Wiki rule: "If file unused in local (english) Wiki, that file can be deleted, but this file must be merged to all Wiki projects that already used this file.". It means that if you want delete, for example, File:Wandering Eye (2nd form).gif (you earlier do it), that you can do it (again) but check all wikis, and upload this file to all wikis where it uses (for example, delete there and upload to Russian Wiki). What do you think? ← Alex Great talk 10:54, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Please archive your page. Its very long. ← Alex Great talk 10:58, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Trying to add 1.3 Antlion sprite, file history bugs out

Hello Equazcion,

I just tried to update the antlion.png sprite to the 1.3 version. However, the file I uploaded somehow showed the same image as the old sprite. I reverted my change and tried to upload it again. Only then my previous attempt, now reverted, showed the actual file I uploaded. I tried to revert to my first change again as it now showed the actual file I uploaded, however this just showed the old version AGAIN. It looks like the file history completely bugged out... making it impossible for me to update the sprite, as well as leaving a messy file history record.

Could you please take a look, and maybe try to revert to the actual new sprite? (And maybe clean up all the unnecessary reverts)

Myrmeleon (talk) 10:33, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

It takes a while for images to update across the wiki. Give the software about 10 to 15 minutes when uploading new images over old ones, and try clearing your cache if the old image is still displaying. By now the new one should be up- it's displaying properly for me, anyway. Gearzein (talk) 10:10, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

The DPL on the Swords page?

The changing over to the Dynamic Page List format on the Swords seems to have messed with the ability to sort by damage, as it now sorts by the first digit in the damage rather than by the number as a whole. Should it just be reverted for now, until it can be fixed on a test page or something of the sort? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Icantnotthink (talkcontribs) at 22:03, 10 Aug 2015 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure I know the cause. The old table had pure numbers as damage values, and the new one has some text included for some items, so the sort defaults to alphabetical for the damage column. This should be dealt with via some changes to the item infobox that standardizes the way additional damage notes are entered. Until that's addressed, the sort issue is relatively minor and I don't think we need to revert. Equazcion (talk) 22:24, 10 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Question re: Blue Slab Walls

Please see the question here: http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Talk:Dungeon_Brick_Wall#Blue_Slab_Walls

The section in question was added by you back in January.

Answered there. Equazcion (talk) 22:21, 13 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Ajax button

I've noticed there is a new "ajax" button next to every rollback and patrol button. Since when is that there and what does it do? Chrisf1020 (talk) 17:13, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Ajax Rollback rolls back without having to go to the "action complete" page. Notably, these rollbacks are flagged as bot edits. Ajax patrol is presumably intended to do the same thing but seems to just return an error message. Gearzein (talk) 18:03, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Ajax rollbacks are included in a new Gadget called "Ajax Sysop" (see your preferences -> gadgets). I added it yesterday and enabled it by default for all admins, because it includes a feature that lists all talk and sub-pages when you perform a page deletion -- I feel this is an important feature that's otherwise missing from MediaWiki. You can however disable it for your account if you want.
I'll take a look at those patrol links though. If they're not working, I'll try and get a customized version up that repairs or removes them (I didn't write this particular gadget and it's currently being pulled from an external site). Equazcion (talk) 20:26, 13 Aug 2015 (UTC)
I split Ajax Sysop into three separate gadgets and left out the Ajax Patrol function. Admins will have the deletion features enabled by default, and the rollback and "hide rollbacks" functions are available as optional gadgets. Equazcion (talk) 00:39, 14 Aug 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Gear for the explanation, and thanks Equazcion for all of the work you have put in to add in these features. The rollback one will definitely be useful. Chrisf1020 (talk) 18:22, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
For the record I disabled the part of Ajax Rollback that marks those as bot edits. It wasn't actually supposed to be doing that and seems to have possibly been the result of a coding error. Equazcion (talk) 17:28, 15 Aug 2015 (UTC)
Hey, Ajax Sysop's talk page deletion notice isn't working. I left Flying Enemy for most of a week, but when I went to delete it the prompt still says there's no sub or talk pages detected. I initially guessed that Ajax Sysop was only detecting talk pages that existed prior to its own installation, but it won't even detect Terra Blade's talk page (though it'll detect its subpages just fine). Gearzein (talk) 03:10, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Fixed now. Turns out it was never intended to list the talk page, only its subpages; but I've now added that feature. Let me know if there are any problems. Equazcion (talk) 07:25, 21 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Questions regarding mobile version

Good day, Equazion. Although my life is still too busy to resume the dedication I once had towards this wiki I have recently been enjoying the game's mobile version, hence I figured I could make some minor contributions in regard to that. I must say I am most impressed with the effort you are putting in maintaining the wiki, and I also want to congratulate you on becoming an administrator - it is a responsibility I could not imagine being able to handle myself. To be honest I feel some worry of whether you, like 0icke, may become overworked, so please make sure to inform Curse to promote a new administrator if the job affects you negatively. In any case I want to thank for you your work in keeping the Official Terraria Wiki a reliable and respectable website.

Furthermore on the topic of mobile content: as both a Terraria player and Official Terraria Wiki contributor I find dismay in lacking resources like inventory editing and game commands (TShock). 505Games' ban of forum posts regarding mobile hacking did not make things easier. After some time I did however find methods to provide inventory editing, and as I myself would (at the time) have enjoyed detailed and reliable information of this during the process I was wondering if - given I muster the time and effort needed - could create a guide for this on this wiki. I'm not quite sure what 505Games' relation to Official Terraria Wiki is (indirect support, I suppose) though, so I fear such a page could be problematic.

Secondly I was wondering if any discussion has been had on how many items now have different icons between game platforms. The mobile (Android, at least) and probably console versions still uses pre-1.3 icons not displayed on the wiki anymore. I believe this could bring some confusion, especially in cases where the new icons are rather different (such as Souls). A possible solution could perhaps be a syntax allowing something like Soul of Flight (Template:Pc icon) / Old (Template:Mobile icon Template:Console icon) (with the old version being a separate file).

If you are currently occupied then my inquiries are best addressed at a later time. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 18:46, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for all the compliments :)
505 Games hasn't supported the wiki at all really. I've attempted to get them to release source code or at least the stats portions, and offered to do that confidentially, ie. only myself would have access so at least there would be someone to check console/mobile facts. They have not budged. Re-Logic itself got involved here a total of once in my time as admin, and it was only to request that something be removed (they had a possible legal concern though). Otherwise neither company has had much if any involvement here.
Hacks have always been allowed at wiki guide pages and I see no particular reason to make an exception now. I'd say go ahead and post your guide.
Having a second icon might be a little tricky, with all the different icon display templates. If you just mean infobox icon displays, that might be a tad simpler (but still not so simple :) Let me think that one over a little. Equazcion (talk) 19:13, 14 Aug 2015 (UTC)
I've attempted to create the a draft of the guide here. I'd be grateful if you could have a look at it and give me your opinion on it. I'm not sure if you're actually an admin anymore, so feel free to redirect to another user if you're not up for the job.
It's no getting around that the guide is mediocre and amateurish - rather than a "solution" it is more of an alternative. If anything, albeit it surely can use some tweaking, it is meant to give simplified and unambiguous info. Again, the controversy of the topic makes me wonder how long it'll last.
Aside from that I must admit I am embarrassed for spelling your name wrong - I do hope the 'c' is silent! I see I misspelled "0icke0" as well... sadly it seems my intro post was never as refined as I hoped it would be. Then again, I suppose this "not quite there" trait is a sort of trademark of mine. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 13:03, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm still an admin, but now a bureaucrat also, listed one section below. Don't worry about the name, everyone misspells it, and I'm not quite sure how to pronounce it myself  :) Although I didn't comb through the wording carefully, it looks like good work to me. I like the abundance of screenshots to illustrate the steps. You could move this to a Guide: page whenever you like. Equazcion (talk) 18:29, 31 Aug 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for the positive feedback, I appreciate it! Say, would it be possible to contact you privately by any means? It could perhaps be of some convenience if you made a "fake email" for Terraria Wiki purposes. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 22:19, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay, I missed a bunch of things here as something happened to my notifications. You can contact me via email using the "email this user" link in the sidebar, and I'll respond via email. Equazcion (talk) 16:37, 25 Sep 2015 (UTC)

Max stack for coins

I ran into a small issue with the infobox on the Coins page: the max stack for , , and is 100, but the max stack for is 999, and only on the PC and console version (according to the page history). The new format for displaying max stacks doesn't work with two different values and platform icons. Do you think it's better to use two infoboxes, or is there a work-around?

Thanks! DoktorFox (talk) 00:35, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

I changed {{item infobox}} so that if that stack parameter contains more than just a simple number, it reverts to the traditional "Max stack" display field. Equazcion (talk) 00:47, 15 Aug 2015 (UTC)

New Item infobox

Hey, I noticed that you modify the Item infobox template. It is a really good idea, because it looks awesome. And so I copied it on the French Wiki but something didn't want to work (see here). Do you know what can I do ? -- Dinoxel discussion 23:19, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

You properly want to upload Stack digit 0-9. That should at least resolve most of the errors. Aside from that you may want to (temporarily) remove <span style="font-size:80%">'''({{use time|{{{use}}}}})'''</span> from the template. If there is text in the use time, other than just a number, it also gives an error. --0icke0 (talk) 23:42, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for you answer, I uploaded those files and removed the line in the template but it still give an error. -- Dinoxel discussion 00:26, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
The template uses a Lua module, Module:String, which needs to be copied to your wiki. It also requires that the extension Scribunto is installed at your wiki, which you'd need to request from Curse. You can email wiki@curse.com or message User talk:Game widow. Equazcion (talk) 00:55, 18 Aug 2015 (UTC)
Thank you too, I copied the module and send a mail to curse. Is that good if there is no colour on the French page ? -- Dinoxel discussion 01:25, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
The Scribunto extension will make Module: pages work. I'm not sure if you'll have color there, that could be another extension, SyntaxHighlighter -- not required though. Equazcion (talk) 01:37, 18 Aug 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I understand. By the way, the time use time template seems to not work while the other two yes. See here. -- Dinoxel discussion 01:50, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
The template fr:Modèle:Use time doesn't seem to be in fr:Modèle:Item infobox yet. Equazcion (talk) 01:56, 18 Aug 2015 (UTC)
Well, "use time" works this time. I don't know why before no. -- Dinoxel discussion 10:57, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Chain Guillotines

You broke the Chain Guillotine page? Why would you do that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by EdgedPixel (talkcontribs) at 11:22, 18 Aug 2015 (UTC)

That wasn't me. It was an anonymous IP user, and they've been reverted. Equazcion (talk) 17:26, 18 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Question about references

Hi, I would like to reduce the police of references, see here to become like here. Where can I modifiy the Extension:Cite ? -- Dinoxel discussion 02:46, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

If you mean reduce the text size of references, add this to fr:MediaWiki:Hydra.css:
.references {
   font-size:90%;
}
Equazcion (talk) 14:26, 1 Sep 2015 (UTC)
Yeah I mean reduce the text size. Thank you. -- Dinoxel discussion 16:40, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

French Gadget UTCclock

Hi Equazcion, I would like to know if it is possible to change the French Gadget UTCclock to show GMT+2 instead of the time of th server ? -- Dinoxel discussion 23:22, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

Finally I rectify it my myself. -- Dinoxel discussion 00:11, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
Sorry I missed this. I stopped being notified of changes on my watchlist for some reason (possibly because I hadn't logged in in a while?). Glad you got it sorted out though. Equazcion (talk) 16:34, 25 Sep 2015 (UTC)

"Thanks" Mediawiki extension

have you guys considered adding it? It's the one that adds the "thanks" button next to individual edits on a given diffs page.--Macks2008 (talk) 16:31, 23 October 2015 (UTC) (edited--Macks2008 (talk) 16:35, 23 October 2015 (UTC))

We already have that installed here. There's a "thank" link next to most "undo" links in page histories :) Equazcion (talk) 19:43, 23 Oct 2015 (UTC)
For some reason, I didn't notice it earlier today... I think I was looking in the wrong place in the history, but it's of little consequence. I thanked the person I wanted to thank, so I guess I'm good :-)--Macks2008 (talk) 04:08, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Just a quick question towards Equazcion

Hey, I am a new editor and I want to know what it takes to become a bureaucrat here. Not something I think I should have right now, I just want to know how to work towards it. If you were just in the right place at the right time I understand you can't help me. XWallOfSteelX (talk) 01:47, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
