Pets are little critters that follow you around. Like summoned minions, pets are completely invincible and they have no set duration - they will follow you until you die, summon a different pet, or cancel the associated buff. Most are purely cosmetic, but some of the console-exclusive pets can do minimal damage to enemies. They can also fly if you go to high for them to jump up.

Quick Answers

What are the benefits of having a pet in Terraria? toggle section
In Terraria, pets are creatures that follow the player around, providing a fun and engaging visual element to your gameplay. They are completely invincible and have no set duration, meaning they'll stick with you through thick and thin. When summoned, they give the player a buff with the same name as the pet. While most pets are purely cosmetic, some versions of the game feature pets with more complex behaviors. However, it's important to note that pets do not provide any gameplay advantages, they're just there for the visual appeal and the joy of having a cute companion on your adventures!

What are some of the best pets in Terraria and why? toggle section
Pets in Terraria are more than just cute followers, they can also provide various benefits to the player. Some of the best pets include the Alien Skater, Baby Ogre, Destroyer-Lite, Eater of Worms, and Everscream Sapling. These pets are considered the best due to their unique appearances and the fun factor they bring to the game. However, it's important to note that most pets in Terraria are purely cosmetic and do not provide any gameplay advantages. How does a pet in Terraria provide light? toggle section
In Terraria, light pets are a special type of pet that emit light, aiding players in dark areas or while caving. These pets are summoned using specific items and once summoned, they follow the player around indefinitely, even in liquids, without costing any mana. They are infinitely reusable and have their own dedicated inventory slot in the player's equipment section. Some light pets can even be controlled by the player. However, while it's possible to change the color of the light pet itself using dyes, the color of the light they produce will always remain the same.
