A Life Crystal is an item that drops when a Crystal Heart is broken with a Pickaxe. When used, it permanently increases the player's health capacity by 20, adding a heart to the player's health bar, while also restoring 20 health. Life Crystals are consumed upon use. Multiple Life Crystals can be used to increase a player's health capacity until it reaches a total of 400, after which Life Fruits can increase the maximum further, to 500.

Once the 400 health ceiling is reached, Crystal Hearts can no longer be used, and attempting to do so will not consume the item. Extra crystals acquired thereafter can be sold, or used to craft Heart Lanterns.

Trivia

• In the alpha version, some bosses would drop Life Crystals upon being defeated.
• It takes a total of 15 Life Crystals to reach a maximum of 400 health.
