Overview
Alright, let's say you just beat the wall of flesh. You may have noticed the large section of land with odd-colored scenery and maybe some pixies. Congratulations! You have just found the hallow. The hallow is a very challenging biome to new hard mode players, with some enemies that can pose a viable threat. Therefore, to deal with these threats, it is advisable to have:
- A Night's edge or better
- 30 defense or more
- A molten pickaxe(for digging through the pearlstone found in the hallow)
- At least 400 health (20 hearts).
- Note: These are the bare minimum for surviving. Feel free to add items to suit your play style.
Surviving
Even on the surface, there are enemies like pixies and the occasional unicorn. These deal around 60 damage each, are strongly resistant to knockback (High knockback weapons like the Breaker Blade will help against this). This can do significant damage to an unprepared player. The enemies underneath are even more dangerous, with enemies like the strong, teleporting chaos elementals, or the enchanted sword, which do high damage, and the enchanted sword can curse you (you won't be able to use ANY items) and are therefore very dangerous. High knockback weapons are strongly recommended.

Notable resources
Notable resources include crystal shard, light shards (from light mummies), souls of light (any enemy in the hallow with a 20% drop chance), unicorn horns, and pixie dust. These are all quite valuable resources and can be essential to game advancement. Crystal shards can be found naturally growing on pearlstone, and emit moderate light. They are needed for crafting the phasesaber, a straight upgrade from the phaseblade. The light shards drop from light mummies, which are found in hallowed deserts. Pixie dust is a common drop from pixies, which spawn at an extreme rate. Unicorn horns are found from unicorns, a rarer enemy, and are needed to make the rainbow rod and super mana potions. Souls of light, as stated earlier, can be found from any enemy in the hallow with a 20% drop chance. Souls of light are needed to make some boss-summoning items, and for many hallow-tier magic weapons.
Notes
Due to the relatively low defense granted by mage and ranger sets, it may be in one's best interest to come back later with stronger armor and weapons.
