Note

Let's say you have always wanted a Terra Blade, but you want to know what you need before you initiate Hardmode in your world. Unfortunately, you can't gain one instantaneously. Sure if you have hardmode equipment it would make it easier and quicker but still, no one can make one in one day. So this guide will be over a long (terraria wise) time. So don't hurry, if you do it will just make it more difficult. Also take some time between steps to gain better equipment and to upgrade your town (because what is the point of getting the Terra Blade if your world is totally ruined?). In 1.2.4, there is a bug where if you crash your game while you have a Night's Edge in your inventory, it will sometimes become a True Night's Edge/Terra Blade.

The Beginning (Kind of)

When you first defeat the Eye of Cthulhu and have a full set of Gold Armor or Platinum armor and have a forge and anvil, it is time to go to the Corruption or Crimson depending on which one is in your world. Make sure you have crafted a Light's Bane or the Blood Butcherer which is made out of 10 Demonite Bars or Crimtane Bars respectively because you will need one of these for the Night's Edge. You will need to make a base in the corruption or crimson to have a Demon Altar or Crimson Altar for making a Night's Edge. Now you just need to continue on the sort of main story line.

The Crossroads

When you have a full set Shadow or Crimson equipment (or if you are a magic character have Meteor Armor) you have a choice, to go into the Underground Jungle which has ranged and aerial enemies, or to go to the Dungeon which has plenty of traps and a lot more enemies at one time (the Vilethorn is very useful as is a Minishark with several stacks of bullets in both areas). The guide will talk about going into the Underground Jungle first but if you are going into the Dungeon just skip the next section, but come back to it when you need to. You will need to obtain a Muramasa, an auto-swing sword found in Golden Chests in the Dungeon, and the Blade of Grass, which is made from 15 Stingers and 12 Jungle Spores which are found in the Underground Jungle. The choice is yours.

The Underground Jungle

When you make the decision to go to the Underground Jungle, go to the Cavern layer inside of the Jungle. Make sure to make a base there with Chests, an Anvil, and a Furnace to store items and to craft the Blade of Grass. First you will need to hunt down the Hornets for their stingers. However, beware of the Maneaters that lurk in the dark and deal a lot of damage without good armor. Jungle Spores are held within small glowing green orbs that appear to be spiked. Break them like how you would grass on the surface. Get all of the stingers and spores you need and then go to your base. Then craft the Blade of Grass. It is recommended that you upgrade your weapons, especially the Thorn Chakram which will help with the next boss fight (there is one in the dungeon and here very, very soon, maybe). If you want you can craft Jungle Armor if you are a mage. Then, if you want, you can fight Queen Bee and that too will help you with the next boss, whose name is Skeletron (If you have done the Dungeon first then Blue Moon will rip Queen Bee apart very easily.) Now you just need to go to the Dungeon entrance and you will see an old man...

The Dungeon

Before you do this you should probably upgrade your house to have more NPCs in it, because there are two very important people down there. When you first get there, there is an Old Man wearing red clothes and has a white beard/hair. Now take the time to flatten the ground and add campfires and/or Heart Lanterns. Make sure there is plenty of moving space, because there is going to be one large fight. When it is 7:30 P.M. talk to the old man. Select Curse and then you will fight Skeletron. When you beat him you will gain entry into the Dungeon (technically you could have entered without fighting him but the Dungeon Guardians will instantly kill you, but if you kill one you will get a Bone Key, which summons a baby Dungeon Guardian head.) Now enter the Dungeon. You will first need to make a base exactly like the one in the Jungle. Now there are five things for you to worry about. There are teleporting mages, Angry Bones, swinging maces, spinning fire wheels, and of course Dart Traps. All you need to do is kill some Angry Bones, get their Golden Keys, and open some Gold Chests. Inside at least one of those Gold Chests is a sword called Muramasa, collect one if you see it. If you want to you can make Necro Armor for your ranged character. You should try to get some of the spells inside of the Dungeon and do NOT forget about the weird colored chests there as you will need them later. Now you are done with the Dungeon.

The End of the Beginning

When you are done with both the Dungeon AND the Underground Jungle, go upgrade your house and move it into the sky or into Space or at least 10 blocks off of the ground (or just make a 10 block deep and 5 block wide ditch around your house). You also might want to light up the surface with torches. Then make a Hellevator all the way down into the Underworld. For this you might want to have a Cobalt Shield from the Dungeon and have a Lava Charm along with LOTS of blocks. Be careful of Demons and Voodoo Demons as they are very powerful and the Voodoo Demon drops a Guide Voodoo Doll that summons a boss if dropped into lava (so collect that item!). Try to find some Hellstone (a block covered in red-orange dots) to forge a Fiery Greatsword. You might also want to make Molten Armor and weapons/tools. After you acquire the Fiery Greatsword, take your accumulated Blades to a Demon Altar/Crimson Altar. From there, craft the Night's Edge. From there you should summon the Wall of Flesh, using a Guide Voodoo Doll you collected earlier, and defeat him to initiate Hardmode. From there you can do whatever you want in hardmode up until after you face the Three Mechanical Bosses; The Destroyer, Skeletron Prime, and The Twins (Retinazer and Spazmatism) But do NOT get rid of your Night's Edge, for you will need it in further crafting.

Obtaining the True Blades

Now that you have fought the Mechanical bosses, you probably have hallowed bars and a Mythril Anvil or an Orichalcum Anvil. Use the Bars to craft Hallowed Armor, tools, and the Excalibur. Now there is a new Event called the Solar Eclipse that has Frankensteins and Swamp Things. These monsters drop the NEEDED AND NECESSARY Broken Hero Sword. Try to get 3 of them. (It might take a few tries since they are very rare. To get a better amount of Broken hero swords, try holding a water candle, put one on a platform near you and drink a battle potion). You should also put down Campfires and Heart Lanterns if you have low defense. Then go to the anvil and craft the True Night's Edge and the True Excalibur. Then craft them together with a Broken Hero Sword and there you have it, the Terra Blade, one of the strongest swords in the whole game (and one of the hardest weapons to get in the game). For now.... You can also try reforging your Terra Blade to have the Legendary modifier, but it will likely cost you several platinum coins.

Aftermath

Upon gaining the Terra Blade, you would like to know what it does, right? The blade itself had a long reach and has a richly decorated hilt. However, what makes it so powerful is its energy beam and auto-swing. The energy beam does the same amount of damage as the sword itself and has a very short cool-down, and the auto-swing allows you to just hold the mouse down instead of relying on your own click speed. Keep in mind that the auto-swing will not maximize the rate of energy beams fired. For close range, it's best to use the auto-swing, but for long range, clicking is the better option, unless you can't click as fast as the projectile is fired. It is a very useful sword that is a must. The items needed to craft it from scratch with the crafting stations need would be; 60 Hellstone, 20 Obsidian, 12 Hallowed Bars, 40 Demonite Ore or Crimtane Ore, 12 Jungle Spores, 15 Stingers, 1 Muramasa, and 3 Broken Hero Swords. That's a lot of work for one thing. Keep in mind that the Death Sickle is sometimes preferred for mid range, and even sometimes close range, as well as for it's wall- and enemy-piercing projectiles. This may be found during the Solar Eclipse as well, from Reapers. The Terra Blade however has more raw damage, size, and range, and may be easier to get.
