Not to be confused with Shadow Key.
The Ornate Shadow Key is a pet-summoning item that summons a pet Shadow Mimic to follow the player around. It can be obtained from Shadow Chests, Hellstone Crates, and Obsidian Crates.
It will occasionally spit out non-collectible cosmetic coins.
Despite inflicting the Shadow Mimic buff, it does not provide any status effects. The pet is purely cosmetic.
Trivia[]
- The Shadow Mimic pet is slightly smaller than Shadow Chests and real Shadow Mimics.
- Despite appearing to be a Shadow Key, it cannot open Shadow Chests. It is simply an item designed after it.
- While flying, the pet Shadow Mimic will emit a soft, purple light. This can be useful for players without a light pet.
- Brown dye gives the mimic the appearance of a normal chest and cyan dye makes it look like an ice chest.
