Pressure Plates are activation mechanisms that trigger wired mechanisms when stepped on. A pressure plate's color determines which characters can trigger it.
Pressure plates can be purchased from a Mechanic or taken from a natural source since the Red, Brown, Gray, Orange and Lihzahrd pressure plates are randomly generated on the map during world creation as the trigger for traps. Pressure plates only take up very small space on top of blocks, so they may be difficult to spot. The color of naturally spawned pressure plates is dependent on the color of the block it is generated on top of. They should be approached with caution as each one is (usually) connected to a trap mechanism.
The Mechanic sells all types, except for Lihzahrd Pressure Plates, which have their distinct color of brown to blend in with Lihzahrd Bricks, and the Weighted Pressure Plates, which are crafted.
The Teal Pressure Pad is a special kind of pressure plate that responds to projectiles impacting it and from pets touching it. Unlike regular pressure plates, the Teal Pressure Pad can be placed on the floor, ceiling, or sidewall, but not on platforms.
The Weighted Pressure Plates activate when stepped on and when stepped off, useful in some applications.

Notes[]
- The Dangersense buff will highlight pressure plates.
- Teal Pressure Pads do not have to be shot for them to activate. As long as the projectile passes through the tile containing the pressure plate, it will activate.
- Golf Balls count as projectiles for purposes of triggering Teal Pressure Pads.
- Pressure Plates will work in reversed Gravity if placed on top of a block and then flown into.
Tips[]
- Pressure plates allow the player to see laid wires when held, which can help avoiding traps.
- Pressure plates that can be triggered by non-players can also be triggered by Boulders. This can be used as a delay, or to trigger a row of traps as it rolls down a hallway.
- They can also be used for opening and closing doors without having to manually open or close them, although be careful that they are not unintentionally triggered by NPCs or enemies. This can be avoided by using the right kinds of the pressure plate.
- Paint can be applied to pressure plates to make them nearly invisible, e.g. for PvP purposes.
- Since they are regular projectiles, Falling Stars can activate Teal Pressure Pads.
