The Boomstick firing Musket Balls

The Boomstick is a gun rarely found in Jungle Shrines and Jungle Crates. It fires a four-shot spread, but only consumes one bullet per firing. All four shots have a base power of 14, yielding 21 damage with Musket Balls and 23 damage per shot with Meteor Shot or Silver Bullets. The Boomstick is similar to its Hardmode counterpart, the Shotgun.

With some luck, and the audacity to enter the Underground Jungle as soon as an entrance is found a Boomstick can potentially be acquired very early, before any other ranged weapon. By investing a little more time and being patient, it can also be acquired by Fishing for Jungle Crates.

Its best Modifier is Unreal.

Notes

• It seems to be significantly more rare than any of the other items found in Jungle Shrines.

Tips

• Due to the spread of the shots and the slow weapon speed, the Boomstick loses efficiency at long range. It is highly effective at close range, and hitting an enemy with all four shots can do around 80 damage, butchering most non-Hardmode enemies outside of Expert Mode.

Trivia

• The term 'boomstick' is a reference to the Evil Dead movie series, in which the protagonist, Ash, refers to his shotgun as a "boomstick". The word has since become a common name for shotguns, particularly short-barreled, or "sawed-off", variants.
