Is it possible to rename this page to NPC, as opposed to Npc? -- Michael 20:02, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

I moved it, I see no issue with moving it to NPC instead since its an acronym. All old links should redirect to NPC now hopefully. -Shadowclaimer 20:05, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
"Npc" is just a Redirection of "NPC", as you can see if you want to edit the code. There should be a "redirected from npc" though, dunno why it's not there. Bow Artist3 20:07, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Says it for me whenever I go to Npc or npc instead. -Shadowclaimer 20:09, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Yea, that was before you did that edit. Sorry ^^ Bow Artist3 20:14, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

I have an idea for a new NPC , the Blacksmith. To get him you will need to have a full set of any armor and housing, but instead of needing a table and chair he will need an anvil and furnace. -Kunal Char

Kunal Char that Isn't a bad a bad idea you should try contacting them, they may think about it. XenteSai (talk) 19:10, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

It seems redundant to have a Requirements section on this page when the requirements are already on the House page. -- Michael 16:32, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Redundancy on a wiki is not necessarily a bad thing. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 18:22, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Damage

I see the NPCs have a listed "damage" value of 10. Has anyone actually seen an NPC deal damage to anything? I get the feeling that it's just somebody copy-pasting but I don't subject my NPCs to a lot of combat. --Theothersteve7 19:08, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

In the source code their damage value is listed as 10, though I've never seen on actually damage anything. --KoreRekon 19:30, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

spawn protection

how large is it? is it dependent on number of npcs in a spot or the size of thier rooms? 96.15.254.171 00:28, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

clothier

someone oughta add him.

"Non-player Character" is more than 500% more used than "Non-playable Character"; let's leave it how it was

124.181.214.85 up and changed the page to define NPC as "Non-playable Character", his only contribution to the wiki. I grabbed some info on the opinions of others concerned with the term and it seemed there is a consensus, so I was comfortable undoing the change.

I think moving this page to Non-playable Character will be better, as "non-player" is not the right term. The term "non-playable" can be 'tweaked' to another player in an online game for example, when "non-player" can only be a computer running that Agent. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by [an irresponsible editor] 14:05, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure I fully understand your argument; but Wikipedia generally goes by common usage, and it seems that "non-player character" is the more common term [and] seems to adequately cover the concept this article describes. TSP 14:36, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
PS. in case it wasn't obvious, my edit summary should of course have read "Non-player character' gets 99k Google hits, vs 18k for 'Non-playable character'", not vice versa. TSP 14:37, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Old Man

It isn't exactly made explicitly clear that the Old Man appears in the world once it's generated, like the Guide, and that you do not have to "attract" him into it as with the other NPCs. He simply spawns at the entrance to the dungeon, and - as far as I can tell from reading the wiki - once you fulfill the conditions, disappears and is replaced by the Clothier, who does appear at your spawn point like the other NPCs. - Spinfx 08:23, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Evicting NPCs?

Is there any way to make an NPC move into another house without destroying a whole bunch of stuff or getting them killed by monsters? I built a big skyscraper structure with tons of stuff in it, but of course one of the NPCs decided to move in (even though there's empty housing elsewhere) and I don't want any of them in there. 68.105.101.28 10:15, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, I just tried pouring a bucket of lava on the NPC and he moved back in another spot in the same area, where I still don't want him to be, so that's just great. 68.105.101.28 11:49, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Avoid combining comfort item and flat surface in that room. -- gamecreator (T|C) -- 11:14, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Any better solutions? I have tables & chairs set up in the big structure for aesthetic reasons, so that's kind of annoying to do. 68.105.101.28 11:49, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

~Usually when i move my spawn and i assign the npcs houses, they teleport there at night. i just have to protect them until then. =P~ p.s I have console version -Anonymous

Respawning NPCs

I guess that when an NPC dies, it's not just that a house will still have to be available for them to live in, but you would also have to meet any other requirements as well in order for them to spawn again. For example, the Demolitionist and Arms Dealer would not spawn if you don't have any explosives or guns in your inventory. These would probably be the only NPCs affected this way. If this is true, it would be worth mentioning on the page. Could anybody confirm this theory, or does anyone know if the game simply remembers which NPCs previously spawned? --Toxik (talk|contribs) 13:25, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Game remembers which conditions were met but ive been having issues with the guide respawning, no corruption can be near your spawn apparently --69.179.184.132 00:07, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Ceiling Height

As of 1.1, it seems that the ceiling of a room needs to be at least 5 blocks high for NPCs to move in. That is, four blocks of space between the floor of the room in which the NPC will be staying, and the ceiling of the room. (Easiest way to do this is to leave one block's worth of space between the top of your head and the ceiling.)

Bound NPCs dying

I found the bound wizard, and "unbound" him. I then Magic Mirrored to my village, where I had a free house. He was slain before he could move in. Does this mean that must refind him and re-un-bind him. He hasn't moved in.--VideoGamePower 04:34, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

No. When he re-spawns, he'll be in a house. 99.229.148.184 17:11, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Generating Bound NPCs

Does Battle Potion increase the chance a bound NPC will appear while you are exploring the relevant areas ? Apologies this is not signed. I do not edit articles very often but that may change enough soon that I will get an account.

Yes, spawn rate increasing items/events will increase the spawn rate of bound NPCs as well. --Icke 17:05, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Should NPC images face left or right?

iLiaWneK (block) 15:08, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

I would say face to the left. That is how we find them in the image folder, making it easier to upload new NPC images in the future. --Icke 15:25, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Besides the fact they are like this, could they all be face left ? -- Dinoxel discussion 10:57, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

It's the order by which they are listed in the exe. I think they are listed by blocks, in the order Nurse, Mechanic, Merchant, Arms Dealer, Guide, Dryad, Demolitionist, Wizard, Tailor, Goblin. However, I'm not sure about the boundaries of each bloc, at least for the relatively common names like Lucas or Gilbert. The dryad, wizard, goblin tinker and demolitionists have names that are quite easy to delineate, the others, not so much. Figured that this could be useful, even if it's not yet in a form fit for inclusion in the relevant articles.

Moley-Allison=Nurse, Shayna-Sally=Mechanic, DeShawn-Darryl=Merchant, Jake-Colin=Arms Dealer, Alalia-Xylia=Guide, Dolbere-Darur=Dryad, Dalamar-Xanadu=Demolitionist, Alfred-Ralph=Wizard, Sebastian-Rodrick=Merchant, EDIT: Alfred-Rodrick=Clothier, Grodax-Knub=Goblin Tinkerer --Icke 12:26, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Rodrick could be a reference to Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I mean, Greg's older brother has the same name. 99.229.105.15 15:15, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Respawning NPC's

Well, It's been almost two weeks since the last of my NPC's got killed in a hardmode bloodmoon, and they still haven't come back. I don't know what to do except for wait becauase i have everything i need for most of them to come back. Is this normal? And what else can i do?

Wait for daytime, double-check that the homes are suitable. And sign your comments. - 71.87.116.224 02:07, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

AI

Could someone research the NPC AI behavior in a little more detail? For example: Max jump height, underwater behavior, reaction to various mobs, pathfinding, etc? - 71.87.116.224 02:07, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Alternate Appearances

Does the dye trader have a different appearance on console vs. PC 1.2? He looks like a guy in a turban on the PC 1.2 version. I don't want to change the picture on the main NPC page if this is a variant, however. Should we list two pictures on the directory and/or detail page if more than one version exists? Painter Spawn Conditions

As of October 2, the page says "The Painter sells paints and equipment used to paint blocks and walls different colors. Acquired when a painting is placed in a suitable house. ". I don't think this is correct. The Painter up on my world showed up right after the Merchant did, on the same day. I don't have anything can be considered a "Painting".

Something similar happened to me. I had no paintings in my house, four rooms (guide, dye trader & merchant), and the painter suddenly showed up. Cappinator (talk) 07:56, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- Same here, he also showed as the fourth NPC after I had the others in houses and empty room. I didn't have any paintings yet, either. Camelotcrusade (talk) 01:22, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

1.2.0.3.1 Respawn bug?

I murdered my guide and the Nurse died during a bloodmoon and they haven't respawned at least a week later, all my houses are suitable and I meet the requirements for the two people to spawn. I live in a hallowed ocean across the jungle. That's all I can think of that may effect things. 75.71.82.54 20:20, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

I am having a different problem where after having people murdered multiple npcs of the same type and name move in. Having 12 Walter the Merchants is not helpful to me. Anyone know what may be causing this bug? They spawn oddly in quick succession and during the night even. 04:12, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Biome specific items

Can someone please finish this with a list of these items. Things like the clothier beanie and the witch doctor jungle items.

Being More Specific about NPCs

I think that NPCs Should have their Gender and Species listed. The only reasons I don't do it myself is because A: I don't want to tick off an admin, and B: I don't know how to use CurseClient Wiki, only Wikia. --173.216.69.55 21:13, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Why would you even. Thirdy2 (talk) 04:52, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

My Guide has not respawned after death!

My Guide Died during a blood moon and has not respawned. I have an extra room and all but still no guide. Can someone help me?

Make sure the house is still valid after the invasion, and that enough time has passed for him to respawn. It's hard to give any more advice than that or tell if it's a bug or not, as we don't know the specifics of your case- you'd probably do better to seek this kind of advice at the forums.

Drowning?

On the world I'm currently using, there's a large, deep pool near the NPC housing. Whenever the Traveling Merchant spawns, he tends to quickly walk into this pool , where he dies moments later. My main house is a few thousand blocks away, too far away for enemies to spawn and kill him, but also too far to reliably confirm the cause of his death. I've had other NPCs die without explanation, all near large bodies of water, but the Traveling Merchant is the most consistent- and conveniently, he leaves his hat when he dies, marking the place of his death, and it's always at the bottom of the lake. I think it's worth testing whether or not submerged NPCs lose health and drown like players now. Gearzein (talk) 11:22, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

I've just tested it; NPCs that remain submerged too long now gradually lose health and eventually die. This isn't an expert feature either; this is a normal, pre-hardmode world. I don't know if this test is sufficient for verifiability but if nothing else I'm removing the claim that they're immune to drowning from the page. Gearzein (talk) 11:35, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
The Nurse can be considered "immune" to drowning; she can throw health kits at herself for 20 HP. She starts doing this as soon as she's damaged, including damage from drowning. The problem is, her "health kits" heal her at the exact same rate she loses HP, so she can't drown. She also can't heal herself if hurt by a zombie in the pool, but eh. Commandhat (talk) 21:47, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Tax Collector NPC?

Is the Tax Collector Hardmode only, or not? On the NPCs page, he appears in the Hardmode category, but in the table that appears under "Character's pages", he's listed as Pre-Hardmode. Here's a print screen of the table I'm talking about: http://imgur.com/QPHHd3l IcerOut (talk) 20:47, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

It requires Hardmode. I've just corrected the nav box (the table at the bottom of the page). Equazcion (talk) 20:51, 6 Jul 2015 (UTC)

It'd be great to get two columns, one for damage, and the other for defense. I'll see if I can add it in myself easily enough, but if not, someone else should

73.35.196.238 06:57, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Magyk Bob

There seems to be an issue with this because I have all the npc's. I even turn my date on my computer ahead to make sure I got Santa Claus, even though it was stated that you don't need him. They also state that there's 22 npc's in all. That's not true either because I counted them up on the main page on this wiki. And before you start about the Taxman, I also have him and it's still on 21 npc's. Why won't this work?

Should we note hardmode NPCs that don't require the world to be hardmode?

The Pirate, Steampunker, and Santa Claus, specifically, are considered hardmode NPCs because the requirements involve a hardmode boss or event to be defeated, but the world does not technically I have to be hardmode to accomplish that, you can find an item to summon the boss/event and bring it to a non-hardmode world to get the NPC to spawn. I was thinking, maybe we could make a note of this on the main NPC page, maybe using a a dagger (†) and a footnote along the lines of "† NPC can be acquired in a non-hardmode world as long as the conditions are met." Would that be a good idea, do you think? Knight9910 (talk) 21:16, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
