The Nymph is a rare enemy that spawns underground. When first encountered, it appears as the Lost Girl, who seems to be a helpless NPC in need of rescue. When a player gets close, it transforms and attacks as the Nymph, a dangerous enemy that deals high damage (for a pre-Hardmode enemy). Once the Lost Girl transforms for the first time, subsequent spawns will skip the Lost Girl form, and appear instead as hostile Nymphs immediately. It is tha most rare enemy in-game and can drop tha most rare item in-game: the nymph-banner.

How can you farm the Nymph in Terraria? toggle section
In Terraria, farming the Nymph can be a bit tricky due to her rarity. She spawns in the Cavern layer of any biome, initially appearing as the Lost Girl. When a player approaches or attacks the Lost Girl, she transforms into the Nymph and begins to attack. To farm the Nymph, you could create conditions favorable for her spawn, such as spending more time in the Cavern layer. However, be prepared for a fight as she deals comparatively high damage for a pre-Hardmode enemy. Remember, the Nymph also has a chance to drop the Metal Detector, a useful item for detecting nearby ores and treasures.

Notes

  • Minions and other enemy-seeking weapons will target the Lost Girl before she transforms into a Nymph.
  • If defeated in its Lost Girl girl form (ie. the player never approaches, and instead attacks the Lost Girl from a distance), its subsequent spawn will again be as the Lost Girl, rather than as the hostile Nymph. It begins spawning as the Nymph after the first time it is given the opportunity to transform.
  • Nymphs spawn more often during Hardmode, and spawn more often in Underground Snow.
  • Template:Console icon Template:Mobile icon It appears to spawn more frequently in the console and mobile versions.

Tips

  • It cannot attack from a distance, nor can it jump very high. Use a ranged weapon from an out-of-reach position.
  • A Harpoon or Flail can be effective, as Nymphs can be stun-locked. Even with its high health, the Harpoon can kill a Nymph in moments with no risk to the wielder, due to its extremely high rate of fire, so long as it is used at short range.
  • Any high rate of fire weapon will be very effective, as they cannot approach you enough for their attacks to hit.

Trivia

  • In Greek and Latin mythology, a nymph is a lesser female deity with the power to animate nature.
  • The left half of the Nymph Banner is of the Lost Girl, while the right half is the Nymph monster.
  • The Nymph Banner, being a rare drop from an incredibly rare enemy, is noted as being one of the most difficult items to obtain.

History

  • 1.2.3: Spawn chance increased.
  • 1.2: Introduced.
