Housing Rumor[]

"It was believed that the Dryad would only move into wood based rooms, though it is false, but might be implemented. " any reliable source for that?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.158.149.44 at 22:03, June 10, 2011‎

Added Citation needed tag. --Colonel Thirty Two 02:35, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
The code doesn't have any special requirements for any NPCs as far as housing goes. --GauHelldragon 08:50, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

No Worm Teeth[]

Dryad does not sell worm teeth during blood moons, she sells corrupt seeds. Basically Grass is swapped for corrupt seeds, and cleansing powder is swapped for vile powder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.210.154.134 at 14:19, June 25, 2011‎

Changed requirements in 1.0.6?[]

I created a new character & new (large) world after 1.0.6 was released. I've killed the Eye of Cthulhu twice now, once from a trigger based spawn & once from using a suspicious looking eye to spawn it. I have 5 NPC houses plus my own but even though I've played many days since the last EoC kill, the Dryad still hasn't spawned. The 4 NPC's I have (Guide, Merchant, Nurse & Demolitionist) move between the 5 houses each night so they are all definitely available as houses & my own house has a workbench, bed & light sources which also fulfil the house requirements (I had to deconstruct the workbench to get the merchant to move). Is it possible her requirements have been stealth changed for 1.0.6 or could it just be a random bug? --Malibu Stacey 00:29, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Well, either a bug or you're doing something wrong. Requirements are still the same. --Lunboks 00:33, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Confirmed: It IS a reference to My Little Pony.[]

Yes, the name "Celestia" IS a reference to My Little Pony.

It relates to Princess Celestia, one of the characters. 99.229.105.15 14:57, 24 April 2012 (UTC) '

No, just because you see it there doesn't mean it's a reference from it. You'll need actual proof like a dev quote. If anything, it's a reference to the fact that the druids from english history, who wear clothing made of products of nature, worshiped the sun, a celestial body. 101.165.197.162 01:26, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

More Bark Than Bite[]

Apparently, a dryad is a part tree, part human creature from Greek mythology. So the quote about more bark than bite is a reference to her very nature. In fact, the word "dryad" comes from the Greek word for oak, dryos.

Jungle Grass Seeds in the Jungle?[]

Just wondering if anyone has or can test whether she sells jungle grass seeds in the jungle biome, since she sells mushroom grass seeds in the mushroom biome. -- Camelotcrusade (talk) 20:47, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Requirements wrong - costume, pumpkin seeds and more[]

I have a 1.2 pre hard mode world with the dryad and she is not selling and haven't seen her selling as far as I can remember:

  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Dryad coverings
  • Dryad Loincloth

Comparison quotes[]

Should all of the quotes for Corruption vs Hallow comparison levels be listed? Just something I've thought of. Davovo (talk) 23:13, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, I think so. It only makes sense to include all the quotes the NPCs say. Summoningdark (talk) 23:45, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
Yes, especially with the new lines added in 1.2.3. Sodapone (talk) 02:35, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Corruption and crimson[]

I created an artificial corruption in a world with the crimson, and after hardmode started, my dryad said "<Name of world> is 8% hallow, 1% corrupt, and 12% crimson. You have a lot of work to do." I think this is worth noting, so I'm adding it. Jjman740 (talk) 23:24, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Possible Percentage Bug?[]

I purified the entire surface of my world(all of it was hallow/corrupt), and a few large chunks of the underground as well. The dryads percentages stayed the same. I would think that I purified at least ONE percent of the world.. 73.183.107.198 21:15, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

It looks like I had to restart the world for the percentages to change.. not sure if that's new or I missed it all along. 73.183.107.198 02:22, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Reported an Xbox 360 bug with the Lizarhd Altar[]

I had created a new world (to hopefully get a Picksaw drop from the Golem), and stumbled upon the Lizarhd dungeon. I collected the Power Cells, and decided to activate it (the Altar) at a distance (whole screen distance) using a Magical Harp. This however, did not physically spawn the Golem, and expended a Power Cell. I then activated it closer, and it worked. See where I'm getting at? Longer than tool range on Lizarhd Altar= No Golem and spent Power Cell. Hopefully you guy's manage to fix this bug. Thx in advance. Edit: I apologize for this being unrelated to the discussion at the time.

Shiverthorn and Waterleaf Planter Boxes[]

Is it with complete certainty that both the Shiverthorn and Waterleaf Planter Boxes are Always available? I have the Dryad on my new world and right now she is only selling the Blinkroot Planter Box (I have only defeated the Eye of Cthulhu). I checked a few in-game days ago and she didn't have those two either. SeooY (talk) 15:57, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Names (trivia)[]

I'd like to add some probable references to trivia for a number of the Dryad's names (yes, yes, I know, references and all that) so thought I'd best throw them up here first rather than get insta-reverted (hi Gearzein :) )

A Dryad is a nature spirit from Greek mythology, generally depicted as a beautiful young woman. Fittingly, many of the Dryad's possible names take inspiration from either Greek myths or female celebrities.
(I guess I could just add this sentence and safely be done with it.)

For trivia's sake, here are what I consider the most likely inspirations:

Pretty sure of:

Less sure of (more along the lines of 'where they may have heard the name' and/or 'I don't know who this is but there's a picture of a pretty girl attached to it' and/or 'I think this is right but don't really want to put it on the page'):

  • Ariella - UK fashion house
  • Calista - Sounds Greek-ish but more likely Calista Flockhart...
  • Celestia - It probably really was inspired by MLP, even if not a direct reference
  • Evvie - Evvy
  • Faye - I'd like to say it's based on 'Fae' but honestly it's more likely the singer
  • Nissa - Nyssa, cf 'Gregory of...' and the Doctor Who companion
  • Rosalva - Rosalva Luna
  • Shea - Either Shae from Game of Thrones or shea butter (beauty product ingredient)...
  • Tatiana - Maslany?
  • Xylia - Baby-name sites have it as a modern name based on Greek "of the forest" (cf Sylvia), which seems likely. Also a webcomic.

(The most prominent bearer of the name Alura, according to Google, is a porn star, and 'Caelia' likewise brings up a particular girl on Google Images; I suspect they're the actual inspiration but there's no way I'm putting that on a family-friendly page.) -- SDGlyph (talk) 12:51, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Rather than adding any specific examples, I'll just add the opening sentence. Having gone to the effort of typing and linking all this, though, I'll leave it here for fun / posterity! -- SDGlyph (talk) 12:52, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Hello! Welcome to the proper way to cite trivia.
While you've already made a decision regarding this, I will say that my main concern would be the length of it, as the intention is to cut down on the size of trivia sections as well. Summing it up in one sentence is probably for the best, though a few individual examples wouldn't exactly hurt. A few of the "less sure" might be a little too obscure to be taken at face value, and entries could definitely be trimmed, but I'd say that wikipedia articles to historic figures with the same name are generally solid proof (though my main concern then is that they're not "inspiration" so much as they "showed up in a <character type> name generator").
Thank you for actually putting in the work instead of just shooting in the dark, though. It's very much appreciated. Gearzein (talk) 14:39, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
I wouldn't insert most of these as specific examples [hate to be a wet blanket -- it's rare that Gearzein actually likes trivia :) ]. Although this provides evidence of a name's roots, there's little or no indication that most of these are intended references on the part of the developer. I don't think we want to list roots of most names on NPC pages, unless there are specific overwhelming correlations, for instance classic wizards on the Wizard page. Xylia, Faye (Fae), and Caelia are the only ones that would pass this test, from where I'm standing (relating to classic elemental fairies). Equazcion (talk) 15:02, 17 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Heh, "<character type> name generator" - yeah. For this kind of thing, I enjoy looking at the game as a whole to see if I can figure out what the devs are into and what kind of stuff might have been bouncing around in their heads before making it into the game (it's certainly a more reliable and interesting approach than "what does this make me think of"). But online random name generators do kind of mess that up...
The more names I looked at, the more I thought I should leave the specifics out. I might change "from Greek myths" to "from classical literature (e.g. Caelia, Elysia, Faye)", but I think I'd leave it there. -- SDGlyph (talk) 15:22, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

hallow % requirement for fairy tale line[]

I am currently trying to get rid of corruption and asked my dryad how i was doing:

"<WorldName> is 12% hallow and 1% corrupt. Wa are living in a fairy tale"

So at least 15% hallow does not appear to be the requirement for that line. Im playing the PC Version 1.3.3. 91.96.145.164 11:50, 15 September 2016 (UTC) UPDATE: now its 6% hallow and 1% corrupt and I'm still getting the fairy tale line. 91.96.145.164 12:31, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

[[[i think as i only have about 2/5 of a 1920x1080 fullscreen area taken and they say it so i think its just that if hallow has the highest number itll say that fairy tale text.... i think i have alittle over the amount you need to make a hallow biome and if youre able to test it have 1 block thats hallow nothing else.... if they say its fairy tale then try all 3 types of the blocks 1 of each and ye... then try a 50x50 area of all 3 and remove 1 block from crim/corrupt and im going to take the guess theyll say its fairy tale and even if you had a world split into 33333 sections each except hallow at 33334 (though likely itll be the same 50x50) and say fairy tale..... Guestds (talk) 05:25, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

New quote?[]

Here is a quote I got from the dryad after the 1.3.4 update "The Corruption tried to take me over when I went to Etheria, but instead, I used its power against the Old One's Army!" 172.68.118.102 07:52, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

plant boxes for corruption and crimson[]

i boticed that in the list for items sold the corrupt and crimson boxes are the same texture.... as i dont want to make a 2nd world to get corruption and would rather trade it or be given its seeds or something.... do they have different textures and are they still technically 2 different blocks or do they stack? in the page showing the boxes only it shows them as seperate but one of these could be outdated and itd be kinda hard to guess it so is it just a page error? if so a suggestion is add corruption to the start of that and crimson to the crimson box Guestds (talk) 05:32, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

They have different ids, so they can't stack. I'll try to fix the table so it displays the correct image. – Ferretwings (talk) 06:17, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
In my Crimson world, I got "Deathweed Planter Boxes", but with the texture shown for the "Crimsonweed Planter Box". Also, "Crimsonweed" doesn't seem to exist. I have not made a second world, but my guess would be that now there's only one box (and herb), but with two different textures for the box. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 15:03, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
Good catch. It seems to be called Deathweed Planter Box for both Corruption and Crimson. I'll edit it. – Ferretwings (talk) 16:04, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Inventory help[]

I'm trying to adjust the Deathweed Planter Box (for Crimsonweed) entry, but it's not behaving as I expected. The Inventory template uses Template:Il2l, which uses the first parameter as the image, and the second param as the text. If I need to adjust the Inventory template, I can, but I was hoping I wouldn't need to. Can anybody figure this out? – Ferretwings (talk) 16:41, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Well, since there have been no other replies, here's a terrible way to do it with string replacement.
Inventory
Item Cost Availability

Deathweed Planter BoxDeathweed Planter Box 1 Inexistent option key
Deathweed Planter BoxDeathweed Planter Box 1 After Eater of Worlds is defeated.
Can't recommend using it tho. 86.115.19.146 11:06, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
You know what, that works, and the situation is too unique to warrant messing with the Inventory template unless we'd get more general benefits from that. I'd say use it. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 00:18, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
No wait, it doesn't work. Putting that inside the table gets you a nested Inventory box, and invoking the string-replace on the entire inventory list gets you only the changed version. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 01:01, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
I found a less elegant but simpler solution to the issue: putting the alternate sprite in the text. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 01:15, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
Yes, you need to wrap entire inventory template into invoke, and I have no idea what you mean by "gets you only the changed version." Did you just/only wrap it, and got a deathweed entry with crimson picture, followed by crimsonweed entry? 86.115.19.146 07:29, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
IIRC I only got the deathweed entry with crimsonweed picture. In any case, wrapping the entire inventory template in a replace would be really fragile, I can see why you originally wouldn't recommend it. PS: Please, get a name, it's pretty easy. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 11:58, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

Criteria for spawn[]

Defeating the Queen Bee boss doesn't seem to make her spawn either. 24.188.96.26 00:14, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure defeating the Wall of Flesh fills the criteria for her to spawn, but this may be outdated because I did this is on mobile version 1.3, is this still true?Ello789 (talk) 17:50, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Theory: there's not one Dryad left, there's one Dryad Soul left[]

so the lore stats there is one dryad is left after the rest died out but every time the dryad dies there's another one with a different possible name

just so everyone knows though, i barely know anything about the terraria lore, i just saw 2 conflicting pieces of trivia and i let my brain work out how to resolve it

so heres what i think happened

Dryads are nature spirits created by the planet to protect it but after the war with Cthulhu something happened to cause the world to "forget" how to make new dryads and so the slow decline of dryads began but the world tries a new trick and reincarnating them by sticking there souls into an empty body, an easier thing to do since there body's are just trees problem is even with bits of Cthulhu's body everywhere hes still an old god, gods are quite good at dealing with souls of the fallen, like a dryad moving between body's without the world to protect it and so while there is now many dryad body's around there's now only one soul to use them because the rest where forced into an afterlife or perhaps just consumed by Cthulhu or the Eater of Worlds

More likely quote trivia[]

The Dryad's line "I kissed a tree in the Jungle and I liked it" is likely NOT a reference to nature therapy, but rather the Katy Perry song "I Kissed a Girl". Given the popularity of the line "I kissed a girl and I liked it," and given all the variations it's spawned over the years, it seems more likely than a reference to nature therapy (which distinctly does not involve kissing trees or even trees, by definition). All nature therapy is, really, is going outside and enjoying nature. Permission to change it?

Knave of Dogs (talk) 02:49, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

You don't need to ask other contributors to make changes :) Your note makes sense, however if I would make those changes on the page, I'll keep both references:
* Her quote "{{gameText|TownNPCMood_Dryad.LikeBiome|x_BiomeName=the Jungle}}" is a reference to Katy Perry's song "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAp9BKosZXs I Kissed a Girl]".
** It could be reference to {{wikipedia|Nature therapy}} (Dendrotherapy).
