Jungle house[]

I tried to make a house in the jungle, but the Hornets kept going through my roof. Anyone experienced the same problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.47.160.151 at 04:09, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

I noticed that if a passage is just high enough vertically to fit a mob, they will occasionally pass through the ceiling/floor if those are 1 block thick only. Increasing the thickness of your house walls should stop this problem, or simply clear away the area around the house. Let us know if you're still getting mobs entering your house after doing that. - Spinfx 01:52, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Entering Water[]

in a world of mine while I was in the underground jungle this enemy entered the water(in version 1.0.5) even though it wasn't supposed to; is that a bug or an anomaly? Roaringjohn 19:16, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I saw a couple of them flying into submerged areas as well just now. - Spinfx 14:52, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
UPDATE: It's likely a bug, I've watched them willingly fly into water, not forced into it due to a narrow passage or anything. It's like they ignore water. The thing is, they don't always do this - most of the time they do just hover above it. Strange. - Spinfx 01:52, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Not the Bees.[]

Hornets seem to be the most annoying enemy to me. They seem to always spawn in very large groups, shooting unavoidable stingers at me, and leading to a quick death. Anyone agree that the Hornets should have a attack nerf? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SuperGamerHero (talkcontribs) at 18:53, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

This isn't really the place for that — talk pages are mainly there for discussion about the article and research. For polling and game balance discussion, please hit up the forums. --Lunboks 19:04, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Bezoar/Cobalt Drop rate[]

I'm not convinced Hornets drop Bezoars at a rate of 1%, if at all. I tried with Moss Hornets for a while before realising it was regular hornets that are meant to drop them. I have 4 ancient cobalt drops and 0 bezoar drops from around ~150-200 hornets. 86.142.206.182 19:07, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

I completely agree. I spent 2-3 hours killing hornets last night in the easymode jungle, and after a pile of ancient cobalt drops, I have exactly zero bezoar. --Getterac7 (talk) 20:32, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
The drop rates don't seem that bad for me. I didn't spend to much time in the underground jungle before hardmode, but I had two. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awesomlyawesome (talkcontribs) at 20:38, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
I had three of these in a row the other day, though I hadn't seen them before that. 1% seems about right; I've had about half a dozen of them total. I've definitely seen moss hornets drop them; not sure about regular hornets. 81.153.219.41 22:18, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
I completely agree too I’ve only ever gotten 1 chestplate drop 0 bezoars 0 greaves and 0 helmets! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.186.237.49 at 19:34, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

More varieties[]

I've noticed that there are some varieties of easymode hornets with a plant-like armor covering on, and another variety with a yellow head an d black stripe on their heads. Can somebody add those varieties to the hornet page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.234.123.14 at 16:53, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Dragon Hornet Hardmode?[]

Does Dragon Hornets are Hardmode ennemies or not ? Because they have 200hp like Moss Hornets. -- Dinoxel discussion 17:01, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Moss Hornets, damage, and Hornet Banners[]

Firstly, I'm pretty sure the damage listed for moss hornets is too low - on my expert mode, these things have dealt me 70-90 damage even with 70 defence, which suggests their damage is more like 160 damage.

Secondly, after very nearly dying because of that high damage and swarms of hornets while I was building an artificial underground jungle, I littered hornet banners all over the place - but they had no effect. It seems moss hornets are not weakened by the presence of a hornet banner, despite the fact that I've confirmed killing them counts towards dropping the banner. I'm not sure if I've missed that as a general fact about banners which apply to multiple enemies (I haven't checked it with the demon eye banner and wandering eyes, for example) but it's probably worth noting in the article that the hornet banner doesn't apply to all types of hornet, at least not to the moss ones.

I'll add the latter now, but I'm not certain what the true damage value is so I'll leave that an open question. 81.153.219.41 22:24, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

Note that in terms of the damage, I'm specifically talking about the stinger. In fact, I haven't confirmed their melee damage wrt the banner, either; it's possible the banner isn't taking effect as it's a stinger projectile hitting me, not the hornet itself. I'll check. 81.153.219.41 22:27, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Nope, just checked; the moss hornets deal about 5-30 melee damage through my armour, which is consistent with their ~100 base damage, so it seems like the banners ignore moss hornets completely. 81.153.219.41 22:29, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

1.4.4 sprite update[]

The hornet sprite got updated in 1.4.4, but the change isn't shown on the wiki
