The Dye Trader is an NPC. He will move in when the following criteria have been met:

  • There is an empty house.
  • Any material used to make dye is in the player's inventory, such as the Yellow Marigold.

The easiest way to acquire the Dye Trader is to mine for a Yellow Marigold with your pickaxe in a forest biome, or mine a Green Mushroom or Teal Mushroom in the Underground or Cavern layer. Once one of these items is in your inventory, and you have built an empty house, the Dye Trader should spawn.
