Would be appreciate here: Terraria_Wiki:Admin_and_Bureaucrat_Nominations. Also, I told Dzylon this, but this week is finals week for me in school so I may not be around much (I'll still try to check in every day).
Mathmagician ( talk blog ) 00:51, March 14, 2012 (UTC)

P.S. Please keep an eye out for vandals and block where needed. Also, if you haven't already, you should link Dzylon and Pathogen to your deviant art and ask what they think about the wordmarks too =). I see you did some variations and they all look kinda cool. Hard for me to know which one to pick. Thanks!

Hello, Dak. Thanks to Math, we can now substitute the coin template using {{SUBST:cc|COIN AMOUNT}} or COIN AMOUNT {{SUBST:cc}}, which will keep visual editing mode accessible to people. Of course, you can replace cc with sc, gc, or pc. Please employ this on any page you see without it. Thanks.

Okay will do, thanks for the heads up! Dak47922 Talk 15:15, March 15, 2012 (UTC)

Comments & Noticeboard

Hey, I have a couple of questions for you, go ahead and reply on my talk page please (or reply here + send me a talkback notice).

1) Do you want comments in other namespaces? Currently we have comments enabled in the main namespace, for blogs, and for the Mod: namespace. Are there any other namespaces on our wiki for which you would like to see comments enabled? Or do you think the current setup is fine?

Note: when comments are enabled, the associated talk namespace is inaccessible. For example, with comments enabled in the Mod: namespace, we cannot use the Mod_talk: namespace.

2) I would like to establish an Admin Noticeboard that people could use to report any kind of issue (vandalism, incorrect info on pages, disputes with another user, etc.) to admins and rollbacks. This would A) keep my talk page from filling up so fast, B) allow all admins to see/handle the issue, not the just one who got the message on their talk page, and also C) potentially make it easier for most people to report things.

The idea I had in mind was a single page in the main namespace, where the comments on that page would be used to report issues to admins. Admins would check this page frequently, replying to comments once the issue had been taken care of. This page would be linked to from the Wiki navigation bar (and possibly other places, such as the top of admin's talk pages) to make it easier for people to find.

The content on the page itself would just be basic instructions for how people should use the page (how/what to report). It could also potentially include links to other things, such as our policy pages. Well, what do you think about the noticeboard concept?
Mathmagician ( talk blog ) 01:03, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

  1. In general I think that for what our users use them for, comments better than talkpages. With high traffic pages all I can imagine is a talk page a mile long and we would also have to monitor them for vandalism aswell. Comments aleviate these problems.
  2. The idea of an admin noticeboard sounds like good idea.Users posting in one place would be a lot better than on our indevidual talk pages. I think issues would also get fixed alot faster aswell.
Dak47922 Talk 22:25, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

Odds and ends

Hey Dak, just wanted to stop by and ask how things were going or if you were having any problems with figuring out any of the admin functions. Also, I did see your RE to my last post and I think, after asking others, that we're comfortable with the comments the way they are. And I will be making an admin noticeboard sometime soon. Also, a few other things:

  1. Check out Scroll down to the comments and see how I've gotten a little message there. Notice how clicking on the link returns you to the top of the page. What do you think about having a feature like that by the comments, across the wiki?
  2. On the for testing wiki, notice that I put up my favorite one of your wordmarks. What do you think about going with that one for our wiki? I think it goes best with our background.
  3. On the for testing wiki, check out what I've done with the wiki navigation bar. It's all messed up right now, right? That's because I'm trying to copy what the Aion Wiki did with their navigation bar. Try Locations -> Instances -> Group -> and see how the 4th level menu pops out? We used to have that on our wiki, but back in January, Wikia did a system update that broke our 4th level navigation (we were using Template:Subnav). I'm currently trying to restore it using the new style that Rappy did over on the Aion Wiki, I'll let you know when I figure out the CSS styling. (I know it works because I got it working when I copied over ALL of their CSS, but I want to selectively only use the parts of it that we need--still trying to figure that part out)

Mathmagician talk blog 18:20, March 20, 2012 (UTC)

  1. I like the Idea of notice above all of the comments. I think that would be great to have on this wiki.
  2. I saw the wordmark. I think that that one will be fine. It does seem to work the bes with the BG. If you want any minor alterations done before you put it up let me know!
  3. I looked at the css file and the Aion wiki's Nav bar and I very much like the style of it. Having a fourth menu tier will surely help A LOT. If you get it implemented that would be great!
P.S: I think i've fugured out most of the admin functions.
Dak47922 Talk 15:38, March 21, 2012 (UTC)
Hey Dak please don't make edits like this. That just replaces one template with another and is an edit which serves no purpose. I'm guessing that you read Pathogen's blog, but that's not applying his template the way it was meant to be used. Please stop modifying coin drops until I can look into this and verify that we're doing it right. Thanks. — Mathmagician talk blog 18:08, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Pathogen and I have been talking about implementing a template to handle update info in the Update Info section at the bottom of content pages.

What the template does is it allows us to pass in update info line by line, but the template itself handles all the formatting. This will help us to standardize our update info and have it appear uniform across the site. Let me know if you approve of implementing this template. — Mathmagician talk blog 08:36, March 24, 2012 (UTC)

It looks like a good Idea! I approve of using it.
Dak47922 Talk 19:44, March 24, 2012 (UTC)

Update info template ready to go

{{UpdateInfo}} is installed and ready to go. Check out the Dungeon page to see what it looks like, and check out this edit to see how I converted what was on the page into the form that the template reads. Basically you just remove [[ ]] around patch numbers, remove * at the start of lines, and put | at the start of every line inside the template. Again, be sure to check out the template documentation so that you know how the template is used.

Pages that are using the template already will display "v1.1" instead of "1.1" for the patch number. So look for that little 'v' as a visual indicator that that page is already using the template. Pages that don't have that little 'v' are not yet using the template.

Note: this template is not designed for use in the Mod: namespace. It is only designed for usage in the Update Info section of official Terraria content pages (main namespace). — Mathmagician talk blog 06:02, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

  • <-- please check this regularly

  • My work on the level 4 navs will be resuming shortly. I apologize for promising they'd be done so soon... but they will get done, I've just been neglecting it a little. @Dzylon: If you have code for the level 4 navs you've been testing on your wiki that you'd like to share with me, let me know.
  • Was thinking about starting a discussion about what (if anything) we should do with our front page. The current "news feed" thingy isn't that great now that development has stopped. I think we need to look at some other wikis and take some hints about what type of content to put on our front page and how to make it look pretty. Our current front page is functional... but probably a graphic designer's worst nightmare due to stuff not lining up, banner not fitting perfectly, too much white background, links to content being so far down, gallery in the right column kinda sucks/we need more visual content, etc. What do you think? Front page needs a discussion about a design revamp? — Mathmagician talk blog 20:21, March 29, 2012 (UTC)

I hope I'm not sounding desprate or anything, but could you consider helping promote the Terraria Fanon Wiki? Its not seeing that many viewers and currently, the only few people inside are the admins. LumpZ 14:05, April 20, 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure I can help that much but you can promote the wiki. (Look here) If you have twitter you can tweet @wikia and say that you need editors and visitors. they usually re-tweet your message to their +3,000 followers. Ill see what i can do but the above methods will likely be more effective.

Restoring Pete's Admin Rights

Hey Dak, just wanted to touch bases with you on restoring Leet-Pete's admin rights. He was previously an administrator here but was demoted for inactivity. I'd like to restore his admin rights as he's done a lot of good work here and he plans on being active for a while now. I've talked to Dzy and Path and they both agree with this. What's your opinion? — Mathmagician talk blog 22:52, May 5, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for not responding earlier. A storm knocked out my internet. I agree that this is a good idea, especialy if Pete has past admin experience. After adding pete I think we should have a pretty stable admin team. Thanks for the message! Dak47922 Talk 14:42, May 6, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I saw you said that the collapsible elements on your profile aren't working. Which browser and which device are you using to connect to the internet? The collapsible divs work perfectly fine when I view your profile in Chrome or Firefox, Windows 7, PC.

Also, those are powered by w:c:dev:ShowHide -- a script from the Developer's Wiki that is maintained by users (Wikia isn't responsible for maintaining or fixing it). However, there is a new, built-in collapsible feature with class="mw-collapsible" that is part of core MediaWiki software now:

{| class="mw-collapsible" style="width: 100%; border: 1px solid black; padding: 1em;"

JavaScript updated

I've made some significant changes to the way JavaScript is loaded on the wiki, for organizational and code efficiency reasons. This is important if you're planning on editing the site-wide JavaScript in the future. Let me know if you have any questions. Terraria Wiki App

Sorry, I didn't see your comment. You're an admin - if you want to add a feature to the main page (akin to the others already there), I say go for it :). I feel like the other admins would agree, but if you want to be sure, you can always start a forum post. User:Dzylon/SigReal

Profiles & stuff

Hey, I wanted to do some profile-related enhancements to the wiki (looking for something new to work on :) and was wondering if you had any suggestions or interest related to this? In particular, I was considering the following:

  • Creating some Terraria userboxes: ("This user has hallowed armor." "This user hates Steam." etc.)
  • Updating MediaWiki:Welcome-user-page so that people have a cooler-looking default profile?

If you think this is worthwhile, or if you have other suggestions, please let me know! I'm still brainstorming at this point. 20px_Rin_Tohsaka_Avatar.png Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 19:26 UTC, Wed, 22 August 2012

I really like the Idea of having userboxes. That sounds like it would be pretty cool! I cant think of anything to add at the moment but if I do I'll let you know! Dak47922 Talk 15:24, August 27, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Dak. Though partial comment censors are fine, instead of editing out an entire comment (like this), you should just delete it and contact the poster on his/her talk page. I know that you wanted to preserve the thread that followed it, but without the original comment, the replies are out of context more than anything (and simply clutter up the commenting area on that page). Thanks, User:Dzylon/SigReal

Ok thanks I'll just delete it next time thanks! Dak47922 Talk 20:12, September 11, 2012 (UTC)

My Own Wiki

Hey, I was wondering if I should make my own wiki or not. I've been thinking about it, and now that Google Chrome helps me edit and stuff, I might be able to manage. I don't know if I have to pay for it or not, but it would be nice to have my own wiki and stuff. Although, I don't know what kind of wiki I should make. Please reply if you have any suggestions/think that I can manage! (If the wiki is set up I will make you admin. :P)

Disabling Achievements/Spam Blogs/other stuff

Hey Dak. Doing alright with the SB wiki, I hope?

Anyway, a few things:

Considering how we've had a large number of users creating low-content/spam blogs or otherwise farming for achievements over the past few months, I talked with a few users a little while ago (including Squazzil and TerrariamcSwaggins, among others) about potentially disabling achievements on this wiki. Would you have any particular objections if this were to happen? As I've expressed in the past, I feel like disabling achievements at this point would have minimal impact on a wiki of this size, so I'd like to think that the good in such a decision would outweigh the bad.

Additionally, do you think it would be a good idea to make a way for users on this site to propose new wiki policies? It has become more and more clear over time that there are some things (such as categories, the aforementioned blog posts, etc.) which desperately need to be regulated (or at least better explained), but there isn't really a way of doing that at the moment (there have been a couple of attempts at policy changes in the forums over the past few months, but they didn't really yield any results). What I had in mind for this purpose was creating a template like this one to be placed on the proposed policy page, then discussion about the policy would take place at Terraria Wiki talk:Policy. If need be, we could update MediaWiki:Community-corner, MediaWiki:Communitymessages-notice-msg, and MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation to make new policy proposals more visible.

Let me know what you think!

Oscuritaforze (talk) 01:45, February 20, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not opposed to the idea, although admitently I havent been very active as of late, I may not be the best person to ask.
As for your idea regarding policies I think its worth trying.
Dak47922 Talk 00:35, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Pretty much everyone I talked to about it agreed, so achievements have been disabled*.
More importantly, the Proposed Policy template has been implemented (and mentioned in the MediaWiki pages I linked above, explained in Terraria Wiki:Policy, etc...)! I ended up creating a proposal for changes to the Image Policy in order to test it out, which can be found here. Feel free to comment on it if you have time. :)
*(Interesting aside about achievements: apparently, if we ever want to re-enable them, they would not actually be fully reset – instead, they would be in the state they were in when they were last disabled. Something to keep in mind if the proposed policy...policy works as planned.)
Oscuritaforze (talk) 22:22, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Manual of Style

Hi Dak. You still check here? :P

You may or may not have noticed, but there is currently (finally!) a discussion going on regarding implementing a manual of style on this wiki. Considering how this is a particularly major policy change (based on the discussion from a few years back on the testing wiki), your input would be greatly appreciated (if you have the time to give it, of course)!

Thanks, Oscuritaforze (talk) 20:45, June 13, 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Dak47922

I'm Darthwikia. You may not know me, I'm a chat moderator from the MCPE wikia, and I recently opened a new wikia- I would appreciate it if we could form a sort of 'alliance'and if you could help me out. I am sure things would work out. I will give your wiki a spot on my main page as well.

DarthWika25 13:02, October 17, 2014 (UTC)Darthwikia

Hey there, Darth. Dak hasn't been active here lately, so it's highly doubtful that he'll respond. I'm hoping to give you an apt response of my opinions concerning this.
Is there really a need for a Mobile Edition wiki? I honestly see no need for it. I mean, we already have all of the Mobile content listed here, we have the complete Mobile Version History listed here, and we're working on accounting for all the different crafting recipes in the mobile version. What would be the extraordinary difference between this wiki, where all the Mobile content is already listed, and your wiki?
Secondly, unless the Mobile Edition wiki receives a lot of publicity, actually has articles there, and a good number of active users, I doubt this wiki would be willing to trade Wordmarks, or otherwise create an alliance. That's not even counting whether or not the Admins here agree with my opinions on how there's no need for a Mobile Edition wiki. It looks like your wiki has just started, so I believe that it is wayyyyy to early to go around requesting for alliances.
I sincerely don't mean to be rude or anything, I'm just giving my opinions and showing you my perspectives on this. :)

Sorry for my late response I just got back from a trip.  My opinion on this matter is the same as stated
above. Dak47922 Talk 22:15, October 19, 2014 (UTC)
We are adding approx 5 pages everyday, and to inform you, I only opened this wiki because I always had trouble finding mobile content...
I'm just saying that if an unspoken alliance could take place, once (if) we gain publicity, we could collaborate and make a bigger community...
And just for saying, Dak, even MC has a PE wiki... :)
DarthWika25 17:12, October 27, 2014 (UTC)
Five pages a day is not bad, however, like I said above, there really isn't a need for a Mobile Edition wiki; we have all the content over here. How could you have problems with locating Mobile content? All you'd need to do is just go to the Mobile Terraria category page and you'd have pretty much all Mobile exclusive content laid out before you.
Again, I don't see the need for a Mobile Edition wiki, and neither does Dak, it seems. Based on that, I don't think an alliance is really needed.
Don't compare us to the Minecraft wiki. We do things differently from the Minecraft wiki; just because they have a Mobile Edition wiki doesn't mean we need to have one. The Mobile content is already here.
I don't think you addressed my question above: What would be the extraordinary difference between this wiki, where all the Mobile content is already listed, and your wiki?
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻Swaggins ~ (The Terrarian Bugle) ~ (Contact me)┬─┬ノ( º _ ºノ) ~ 20:52, November 5, 2014 (UTC)
The main problem I always had is the 1.2 Update content- after that update for PC, textures changed, more mobs and biomes, a lot of stuff... I know 1.2 for Mobile will come out soon, but till then 1.3 for PC will come out. Besides version differences, a lot of Mobile Exclusive Content will be release, such as the Thanksgiving Update which, I believe, would be much easier to find on my Mobile Wiki. And I don't see much of a difference between the operation of your wiki and mine... And, I don't see all the content listed on your 'Mobile Content' page anyway...
I really don't mean to be rude, but if our views don't meet, they don't... If you ever feel like making an alliance, you can contact me here: Darthwikia, otherwise, I suggest we drop the topic. I know I am never going to close my wiki and if your don't feel like an alliance, you are entitled to your opinion.
DarthWika25 08:37, November 6, 2014 (UTC)
(Reset indentation)
Going to use bullet points here so my text isn't confusing:
  • I don't really get the first thing you said there, to be honest.
  • I don't see how Mobile content would be inherently easier to find on a Mobile Edition wiki, to be honest. All it requires is a quick search in the search bar.
  • Exactly, there isn't much of a difference in what we do here, and what you do on your wiki, therefore resulting in my previous assumption: A Mobile wiki would be pretty pointless.
  • You probably don't see all the mobile content on that page 'cause we have yet to create articles for the Thanksgiving update.
You are correct, I guess our views don't meet, and that's perfectly fine. If we ever reconsider, which we likely won't, we will certainly let you know.
I wish you well with your wiki and I am glad that we got to discuss this. :)
