Hello Fruipit, and welcome to the Terraria Wiki! Thanks for your contribution to the Category:Rare items page. Here are several pages that can help you with where to begin:

  • Wiki Activity – A great first stop, because you can see what pages other people have been editing, and where you can help out.
  • Help Pages - If you're new to editing or having trouble getting something to work, the help pages are a great place to start.
  • Forums - The forums are used for a number of things, from proposing policy changes to in-game help. You can use the Admin Noticeboard to report abuse or otherwise request an administrator's assistance.
  • Community Portal - The community portal serves a number of purposes. It lists Terraria Wiki's policies, suggestions on ways to further contribute to the wiki, as well as a number of helpful links.
  • Administrators - A list of Terraria Wiki's administrators. If you need additional assistance or are having troubles, feel free to contact an administrator with the details.
  • Always sign in before you edit – This is so that we can recognize you!
  • Always sign your posts - When leaving a message on someone's talk page, remember to sign it by clicking either the 'signature' button or by typing four tildes (~~~~). This is so the person knows who to reply to.

There's a lot to do around here, so we hope you'll stay with us and make many more contributions. And again, welcome to Terraria Wiki. Please leave a message on my talk page if I can help with anything! Oscuritaforze (talk) 11:14, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Fruipit,

I just wanted to say I read your blog post and really appreciated your "I've made it a mission of mine to get to know this wiki" approach. One thing that's true of every wiki is that it has a "method to the madness". There's a wide degree of variance there – whether it's cemented in formal, written policies and procedures that are closely followed, or more of an informal operating norm shared by the people in the community. I think that what you'll find is that Avatar Wiki is more of the former, while Terraria Wiki is more of the latter.

What it boils down to is that, historically, the vast majority of users here 1) haven't been experienced wiki editors, and 2) care more about Terraria the Game than the inner workings of the Terraria Wiki. When you don't have many active, experienced users concerned with the inner workings of a wiki, well, there's a limit to how much you can evolve and maintain policies and procedures.

And that's okay. Terraria Wiki may not be the most evolved wiki community, but it is a successful one. I hope that you will come to find something to like about the wiki, and some way you can use your experience to shape it.

P.S. Oh yeah, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Math, one of users who's been around for a while, but not an active editor here currently. I still love Terraria, but when you work 40 hours, take night classes, and have other hobbies and priorities in life, well, there's a limit to how much I can be around here. That being said, I am still lurking around Wikia sometimes these days, at least to maintain my scripts over at dev and stopping in here on occasion.

Anyways, I hope you'll keep editing here and wish you luck! Despite not being the most available person these days, I am genuinely interested in people having fun with wikis and being helpful when I can, so feel free to leave me a message if you like :) 20px_Rin_Tohsaka_Avatar.png Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 23:30 UTC, Saturday, 7 December 2013

Oh, hi there! Yes, AW has a lot of policies, although the community is a lot larger too, it seems, with more active editors and contributors; we need those. It is a little unnerving coming here for that reason, as I'm very used to having to do certain things, such as adding sources/licensing to images when uploaded. Oh, I do like it, don't think I don't, but it is taking a little to get used to (such as the no swearing rule xD)
I'm here because I am an experienced editor, and while I mostly do stuff in AW's fanon portal, I like to think I'm pretty good at maintenance - I hope to clear out a lot of the special pages, what with the uncategorised files and such. The {{Delete}} and {{Speedydelete}} templates have caused some confusion, although I think I'll be okay with that.
I think the biggest thing is that I enjoy communication, and AW is very open about that (with some of our edit summaries being ridiculous, and not always relating to what we were doing on the page), where this wiki isn't. For me, the talk pages are harder to use, and the contributors seemed a little hostile at first (not entirely surprising, I'll admit), so I think it'll just take a bit of getting used to.
I'll be sure to keep editing, and I'll pop in now and again to say hi :) Fruipit · Talk page · Writings 11:14, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah... there's just a lot of things that take getting used to here. I hope you can brush off the initial hostility. In the case of the blog post, I think that people perceived an overall tone that they didn't like. When you say "I'm from a different wiki", you paint yourself as an outsider. When you combine that with a message like "things here confuse me" or "where I come from, we do it this way" — people generally don't take kindly to that. Communities and systems are generally resistant to change from the outside. People could have been a little nicer in the comments section. Unfortunately, neither you or I can control that. (Well, I can at least make sure people aren't swearing at each other :)
Licensing images: One of those things we should do, but if you look at it in the big picture, it's 1) extra burden on users and 2) not really an issue. If it was, we'd probably be doing it. Copyright holders can always request admins to remove images and we would take them down, or file DMCA notices with Wikia. Honestly, I can't think of a single case where this has ever happened here. The vast majority of images are game screenshots, copyrighted to the game developer, and featured here under fair use. If the game developer had a problem with this, he wouldn't care whether or not we spent countless hours adding some fancy "fair use" template to File: pages. He would probably just go talk to Wikia, and then Wikia would come and talk to us.
User talk pages: I actually prefer message wall myself, and think it would work better for this wiki — for the same reasons that we use the comments feature rather than article talk pages. Comments and message wall are very social media like, and intuitive for most people. However, when Wikia first created message wall, I tried to convince people here to use it. More editors preferred talk pages, so we stuck with that. 20px_Rin_Tohsaka_Avatar.png Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 23:09 UTC, Sunday, 8 December 2013
Yes, I have a feeling that was it. But I don't care, they can love me or hate me, it won't affect how I work on this wiki. Actually, it might spurn me on to do even better ;P They do confuse me, but I feel like I'm slowly getting the hang of it. I hope other editors talk to me when I do something wrong, instead of ignoring me or having a go at me :(
Aye, but people forget to add the category. Do you mind if I create a template that has to be added, if only so it adds the images cat? It would be an issue until we managed to clear out the unused files (we have over 1,000, but I don't know how many exactly, because the unused files special page only holds 1,000. I've gone through the videos and marked them. We need another bot, I think, just to regularly clear our the candidates for speedy deletion...
Aye, Oscuritaforze mentioned that he preferred them. I like the message walls, they're simpler and encourage more user-user communication. Hmm, perhaps I could create a forum about a general discussion page in which users can suggest changes to the wiki (unless of course you already have a page like that, hidden away? :P ) Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 11:54, December 9, 2013 (UTC)

is a word ( just saying =p ~ Juper0 (talk)

I actually use the Merriam-Webster dictionary, and according to this random forum, neither it nor list it as an actual word. My spell-check tagged it, and the only option it gave was 'equitable'. Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 18:06, December 10, 2013 (UTC)

Is "equipable" not used in Terraria? I don't have the game available to see right now, but I think it is a term used in the game. I think a term used in-game is acceptable to be used (in proper context) on the wiki. ~ Juper0 (talk)

I don't know, but I feel that we shouldn't use a word that isn't actually a word (unless it's the name used within Terraria). It's not hard to do a minor rewrite and change 'equipable' to 'able to be equipped', or some variation thereof. Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 18:26, December 10, 2013 (UTC)
As it turns out, "equipable" actually is used in Terraria. As such, I see no reason not to use it on this wiki.
Oscuritaforze (talk) 21:01, December 10, 2013 (UTC)
Oh, well, fancy that :P Do you want to leave it, or rewrites per English definitions? Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 02:00, December 11, 2013 (UTC)
Either way would probably be fine, but in the case of a choice between proper English and being true to the way the topic of a wiki presents information, the latter is probably more important.
Oscuritaforze (talk) 22:59, December 11, 2013 (UTC)
Gotcha :) Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 00:20, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

MonkeyTronBlade5 (talk) 10:09, December 11, 2013 (UTC) Hey fruipit, what happened to the Santank page again? It is again requested to be deleted :(

That is just that Santak page that I marked, because it is misspelled. Don't worry :) It's not the actual page, just a redirect (although, as another note, could you just give the the link you used to find out about that new boss?) Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 10:15, December 11, 2013 (UTC) Before you say that is a rumor, The guy who posted that was a moderator. Also, can you add the picture of him? Plus, why are you asking me? See the video on the Santank page. Anyways, the link is above.—Preceding unsigned comment added by MonkeyTronBlade5 (talkcontribs) 10:19, Decemeber 11, 2013 (UST). Please sign forum and talk page posts with ~~~~ (4 tildes).
I got it, thanks! I wasn't going to say it was a rumour. I asked you because you found out about it first, but there, an image has been added. Thanks so much for that :) Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 10:26, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

MonkeyTronBlade5 (talk) 10:37, December 11, 2013 (UTC) By the way, why don't you try to add a photo of Santank's 2nd phase?

Well, I can, it just involves a little more work (not that that is really an issue anyway). I'll do that :) Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 10:39, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

I guess it's time to get to know people, since all I've been doing is editing in the wiki. You seem nice, I should have some friends in this wiki. xD

Ok, rather then making pointless posts in the blog, just a question, why are you still on wooden armor? Need some pointers? Or are you a really busy person? Just want to know. :) Jonathang (talk) 14:10, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

Howdy! You know, that warms my two-sizes-too-small heart, hearing that :3 All I've been doing is editing too (these darn talk pages! How is anyone supposed to socialise with 'em?) :P
Hello, Jonathang. How are you? :)
Yeah, um, I've played maybe three hours altogether. I've spend more time editing on the wiki than playing the game, let's put it like that. So, it's more like, I'm just confused. I have a cactus sword, though xD Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 14:20, December 11, 2013 (UTC)
I'm fine, thanks. (The talk pages are really hard to use for me too lol. >_<) Btw, you're a really diligent editor, and you really know how to edit a wiki (Unlike me, I make MANY mistakes... xP)
About Terraria, getting a cactus sword is not bad progress, but nothing compared to the whole game. I suggest you should go deeper to the game, as in deeper into the game and deeper underground. Mining iron, tin or lead is a start, make a furnace , and after that, fight some bosses like the Eye of Cthulu when you think you're armed enough (At least Iron/Lead/Silver Armor and weapons should do the trick!) (Get 6 lens and go to a demon altar to make the suspicious looking eye) for some special ores (Crimtane or Demonite Ore). Well, I'm not going to make a walkthrough of the whole game, the point is, underground is where you need to go, and mining is what you need to do! Jonathang (talk) 12:00, December 12, 2013 (UTC)
Aww, well, thanks :3 I've been hanging around on wikia for a while, so I hope I know what I'm doing xD Oh, some of the mistakes I've made. In one night, I accidentally deleted, oh, five pages I shouldn't have? I was getting rid of the redirects, and, well, I didn't xD Just keep editing - you'll get better at it.
I have a tin, uh, thing. And a magic weapon. I actually found a 'suspicious looking eye' while I was spelunking. I'm trying to get some NPCs, but they're just not appearing :( Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 12:10, December 12, 2013 (UTC)
Haha, don't worry about mistakes, everyone makes some. xD
Now, about NPCs, you need to make a house. The criteria is (As I remember...) the house must not be too small, at least 5 blocks high and wide (That's how I made my houses.), it must have a light source (E.g: Torch) inside it, the house is not in a corrupt environment, there should be at least 1 table and chair inside it, and the floor must be solid. (No wooden platforms.) That's how to make a house. NPCs also have criterias to be spawned. For example, the nurse spawns when you have above 200 HP, the merchant spawns when you have 50 silver coins (I'm not sure), and check the NPC page for more criterias. Jonathang (talk) 05:14, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

[Reset Indent] So, floors? Oh, geez, how simple xD I have met the requirements for a merchant, but just couldn't figure out how to get him to spawn. I've been reading the pages as I edit them, but a lot of the information is kind of basic, so it's more a trial-and-error thing with this *sigh* How far are you in your game? Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 07:26, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

I guess I'd say I've beaten all bosses in the game, and have most weapons in the game, even the ones requiring elemental keys. (Haven't got The Axe though.) I heard that we can get the S.D.M.G., and Portal Gun in the christmas update, that's why I can't wait for the Christmas update! So, how far are you in the game right now? Any new NPCs?
P.S: I'm sorry that I forgot to add the criteria of having walls in a house! (The walls CAN'T be natural walls underground. If you want to make an underground house, remove the walls first, then replace them with other walls.) Jonathang (talk) 03:17, December 14, 2013 (UTC)

American English

Why are you editing everything to use American English? AFAIK, the game itself uses British English, unless there's some American version I am not aware of. FriedEggz1 (talk) 17:49, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

Because, per the wiki policy, all words should be in American English, not British English. I didn't realise that the game used BE until I found an image with the text on it; those specter/spectre pages were just a mistake on my part. Hey Fruipit.

Just to let you know: in the infoboxes on item pages, many of the parameters (such as "crafting station") have switch parser functions associated with them, so they will usually not need to be changed.

(For reference, a list of the switch results for the item infobox can be found here).

Oh, jeez. Alright, thanks for letting me know :) At least I've been getting other formatting out of the way at the same time, so no harm done :) Fruipit (TalkContribsEditcountFanon) 22:21, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Fruit for Thought

Hi Fruipit,

Regarding the topic of your email and recent ongoings on the wiki, I have left a message with Kida and hopefully you will be able to smooth things out and both edit here peacefully.

Much the same as I said to her, please also do your part to not engage in confrontation dialogue with others. To give some particular examples, this means to not accuse them of being unpleasant to you (even if they are), or drop warnings related to the blocking policy (Thread:253800#3) or badge editing (edit summary).

Especially in the case of the blocking policy, it is inappropriate for you to directly warn others of this. Regardless of your intentions, this is interpreted by others in a very negative light and is not helpful. If a warning of that nature needs to be given, it will come from an admin. (Anecdote: badge editing is mostly a non-issue on this wiki, I do not think it's been a particular problem here, so I wouldn't be concerned about it unless someone is really taking it to the extreme.)

Otherwise, I hope that you will keep playing Terraria (it's quite a fun game!) and finding things to edit here. I'm willing to help sort out issues if you would like me to, though my general preference is to not intervene like this unless necessary. 20px_Rin_Tohsaka_Avatar.png Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 05:57 UTC, Saturday, 14 December 2013
