Well the thing is, they're just like upgraded Magic Daggers. But they're not magic weapons, because that'd make it possible to stack lifesteal with Spectral armor. But the closest thing to them is boomerangs, even if they don't have a return trajectory. Majora 787 (talk) 01:49, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Best Prefix
Page currently says the best modifier is legendary, however I can't confirm this after nearly 300 platinum worth of reforgings. The best I've gotten is godly. Can anyone provide proof of a legendary reforge? 96.252.203.65 12:05, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Reference to Touhou / JJBA?
As far as I know thrown knives are not commonly associated with vampires. Meanwhile in Touhou series, which is quite popular, there is a character, namely Sakuya Izayoi who is a servant of a vampire and throws hundreds of knives, just like this weapon does. She is also basically inspired by Dio from JJBA. I'm not a guy who'd consider every slight similarity to be a reference, however there already were references to popular anime (Soul Scythe, 'Soul Eater'). As I said, vampires and knives don't generally go together in common depictions, right? Maybe we can consider this to be a reference? 88.156.132.3
- Throwing knives aren't particularly well associated with vampires, no. However, because of the bloodsucking connotations, vampirism is a common shorthand for lifestealing equipment in video games, and the Vampire Knives' whole thing is that they steal the target's HP. There is enough of a case to be made that "Vampire Knives" is no more descriptive a name than Fire Rod or Water Bolt in trying to draw connections. This is the brunt of my argument.
- The Vampire Knives aren't a reference to Sakuya because she's not actually a vampire. While she is a reference to Dio, the reason for this is because of her use of throwing knives and ability to control time, particularly to stop time and alter the angle of her shots- a property that the Vampire Knives don't even touch on, and one of the most significant attributes of both characters. The World is so strongly associated with Dio that it's not entirely unreasonable to assume that someone could know of it without even being aware that he was meant to be a vampire, so for something to be a "reference" but not even address what the characters it's referencing are primarily known for would be, for lack of a better word, bizarre. You could easily jump through a bunch of hoops to make the association, but in that case the example you've presented works against you. The Soul Scythe is a weapon so literally taken from its source material that it had to be removed due to copyright concerns, and in nearly every other reference- see the vanity items taken directly from Mario and Zelda- the developers are just as forward about their intentions. The proof is too thin and the standard of verifiability is too high to accept that it might be a reference. It either needs to be so plainly obvious that there is no shadow of doubt, or the developers have to come out and say it themselves.

Damage Mechanics
Can anyone confirm whether or not it deals its listed damage on a shotgun-like per-projectile basis? If that's correct, that'd explain why the page claims this to be the best melee-damage weapon in the game, when the Paladin's Hammer has this beat in terms of raw damage.
- Yes, each projectile of the weapon will deal the full damage on the tooltip. While I believe that the Paladin's Hammer still has a staggering higher DPS, the knives allow the player to constantly heal themselves, which is why they are the best weapon in the game for melee players. - Finally had some time to toy around with it. Against standard enemies I'd definitely favor the piercing that the hammer has. Against bosses, it's a bit hit-and-miss. I tested it mainly against the Golem in adequate space, and either weapon seems to kill it in comparable lengths of time. Thing is, with the Vampire Knives a properly-armored character can ignore basically everything save actually running into the Golem itself, so the ability to take risks offsets what seems to be otherwise lower DPS. One lesson I've learned is that neither will help you you're stuck in your house with a Mourning Wood. XP --184.20.23.17 03:58, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Average Number of Knives Thrown
If I read the intro correctly, here are the probability of each number of knives being thrown: 4: 6.25% 5: 50% 6: 25% 7: 12.5% 8: 6.25% By multiplying each number of knives by the above probabilities, I found the average to be 5.625 knives thrown on average. Hardmode?
