世界一詞指的是泰拉瑞亞的虛擬世界系統，遊戲的一切皆發生於其中。世界容納着全部遊戲內容，比如物品、敵怪、物體、等等。泰拉瑞亞世界是二維的，以類平台遊戲的方式操縱。世界的外觀取決於一些設置。

地圖一詞部分與世界同義，但也可以指小地圖，即遊戲中的地圖系統（不要與佔據整個屏幕的大地圖混淆）。

創建與訪問

 Desktop 1.4.0.1 上的世界創建屏幕。

世界是在遊戲的主菜單中創建與進入的。在選擇了一個單人或多人模式人物後，如果已經創建過世界，玩家可以選擇（玩）已創建的世界，或者可以創建新世界、收藏世界、將世界與 Steam Cloud 集成以便在不同的電腦上訪問它們、以及刪除世界。

隨機	Let nature decide whether corruption or crimson infects your world.
腐化	Disease-like corruption is guaranteed to be present in your world.

世界的名稱和種子可以用帶圖標的按鈕來隨機化。

進入

在給定時間只能訪問一個世界（與玩家一次只能控制一個人物的方式類似），但玩家可以自由創建任意數量的世界，只要他的設備或者電腦裝的下。人物並不鎖定於世界（旅行模式人物例外，只能進入旅行難度的世界），因此，舉個例子，遊戲末期的人物可以進入進展沒這麼深入的世界中玩，也可以將資源從一個世界帶到另一個世界。

由於玩家的物品欄、豬豬存錢罐、保險箱、衛熔和空保險中的內容是隨同人物保存的，因此不管進入哪個世界，人物總是可以存取這些東西。

給定的世界可以用於單人模式和多人模式。如果是後者，此世界用於製作伺服器（參見指南:建立伺服器）。

進入新世界時，角色將出現在世界的生成點上，通常在地表靠近地圖的水平中點處，並且遊戲內的時間為上午 8:15。可以用床來改變人物的個體生成點。如果玩家死亡、或用回憶藥水、魔鏡/雪、或[[手機|]]傳送，就會回到其生成點。

結構與內容

花絮

• 選擇世界時，樹圖標的樹葉會根據世界的狀態而有所變化。左半部分總是反映着世界自然生成的邪惡生物群落，而右半部分則是純淨的森林樹。在一些秘密世界種子中，世界上天生就兩種邪惡生物群落都有，這會導致樹上腐化和猩紅都有，不呈現純淨部分。在困難模式中，右下角四分之一和一半左邊枝條都會變為黃色，代表神聖之地。
